Fujitsu's Eco-Friendly Servers Reduce Cleanup Corp's Carbon Footprint

PRIMERGY TX120 S2 servers deployed in all office and showroom locations

Fujitsu Limited,Cleanup Corporation

Tokyo, June 16, 2010

Fujitsu today announced that Cleanup Corporation, a major manufacturer of kitchen units in Japan, recently upgraded the servers at its 129 nationwide locations by deploying the eco-friendly PRIMERGY TX120 S2 servers, which are among Fujitsu's "Super Green Products(1)". Cleanup worked in collaboration with Fujitsu, known for its extensive experience in deploying complicated server configurations, to rapidly enable the migration, installation and deployment of 137 servers in all of its locations throughout Japan in roughly two months.

Cleanup is pursuing initiatives in eco-friendly product manufacturing, in addition to striving to reduce the environmental impact of its business activities. Through this upgrade, the company anticipates that it will be able to reduce its CO2 emissions by up to 181 tons annually—equivalent to the CO2 absorption of 12,928 cedar trees(2). In the future, Cleanup will continue to actively pursue environmentally-friendly activities as a company that minimizes environmental waste.

Background

Through its 129 branch offices and showrooms across Japan, Cleanup has widely expanded its household appliances business focused primarily on kitchen units, to include kitchen sets, bathtubs, sinks and commercial kitchen appliances. The company actively works to manufacture eco-friendly products while striving to reduce the environmental impact of its business activities.

Cleanup's Kitchen Units

The servers utilized by Cleanup at its 129 branch offices and showrooms across Japan play a central role in its sales system. Cleanup recently consolidated the number of servers it uses, reducing 158 servers to 137, and upgraded them to Fujitsu's eco-friendly PRIMERGY TX120 S2 servers, which deliver world-class power and space efficiency. This move has enabled the company to cut its annual CO2 emissions by 181 tons (equivalent to the CO2 absorption of 12,928 cedar trees), a reduction of 1/3 of its previous emissions volume. Cleanup estimates that this will lead to an annual cost reduction of approximately 7 million yen due to a significant cut in its energy consumption.

By deploying PRIMERGY TX120 S2, which features a quiet noise design, Cleanup has also been able to reduce excess noise in its offices and show rooms, further enhancing the office environment. This has led to increased business productivity and, as a consequence, has the potential to lead to improved customer satisfaction.

Cleanup will continue to pursue the conservation of energy and natural resources, in addition to actively working to prevent global warming by reducing CO2 emissions and conducting eco-friendly business activities. Furthermore, Fujitsu is promoting its Green Policy Innovation initiative for reducing customers' environmental burden, and will continue to leverage ICT to contribute to Cleanup's environmentally-friendly activities.
