Fujitsu Enhances Server Management Software for Multi-vendor, Multi-platform Environments

- Enables automatic operations of enterprise cloud with software products from Fujitsu and BMC Software -

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, October 27, 2009

Fujitsu today announced the availability in Japan of software with improved server management functionality that will enable customers to employ their on-site mission critical systems as enterprise clouds.

This updated software can automatically configure servers and manage parameters in a multi-vendor, multi-platform environment, allowing customers to utilize their existing IT investments and smoothly operate servers for use as enterprise clouds. Fujitsu's ServerView Resource Coordinator VE administrative software for visualizing virtual and physical server environments, combined with BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager for automation of server operations, automates the entire process of configuring server environments and managing parameters, from installing the OS and middleware to setting parameters for connected devices.

The BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager is available today in Japan from Fujitsu in collaboration with BMC Software, and will be extended to other regions in the future.

Background

Customers operating their own mission critical systems have become increasingly interested in virtualization and cloud technology as ways to consolidate servers and increase utilization efficiency. But with an increasing number and variety of servers, these customers face challenges associated with server administration, the inefficiency of having to manually manage each kind of server, and operational errors that can bring systems to a halt.

Fujitsu has enhanced its server management software in Japan by combining the BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager, with its proven worldwide track record in automating server operations, and ServerView Resource Coordinator VE. Users can take advantage of both products' respective strengths to easily configure servers and manage their parameters, even in a multi-vendor, multi-platform environment, as well as accelerate the efficiency of IT infrastructure utilization and consolidate servers for the enterprise cloud.

About the BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager

In collaboration with BMC Software, Fujitsu is offering the BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager in Japan for server operations automation.

< Key Features >

  • Automates configurations for OS, middleware, and as well as applications across multi-vendor and multi-platform environments.

About ServerView Resource Coordinator VE

ServerView Resource Coordinator VE enables the visualization of physical and virtual server environments while unifying server monitoring and operability.

< Key Features >

  • Rapid and accurate situation assessment without distinguishing the types of physical and virtual platforms; consolidates operations for starting, stopping, and rebooting servers.

Combination of ServerView Resource Coordinator VE and the BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager automates server administration in a multi-vendor, multi-platform environment

< Key Features >

  1. Minimized setup time for infrastructure
The BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager automates the installation of OS, middleware, and applications, in addition to packaging OS installation definition and application settings information to support the automation of server configuration. ServerView Resource Coordinator VE can replicate a configured server's image and mirror it to other servers, greatly speeding up the infrastructure setup time from request to response.
  2. Operation cost reduction
The BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager collects server configuration information and screens patch conditions. As it can also automatically distribute patches to those servers that have not been updated, this reduces the risk of human error while quickly and reliably handling the applications, thereby reducing operation costs in the process.
  3. Improved system stability
Should the patch fail after the BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager distributes it, or if the server encounters a fault, the ServerView Resource Coordinator VE enables the server to recover automatically. This reduces the labor downtime used when servers need to be rebooted.

These products may be combined with Fujitsu Systemwalker middleware, which leverages Fujitsu's accumulated know-how over the years, for comprehensive system operations management. In addition, ITIL®(1) practices can easily be supported, allowing for high-quality datacenter IT services and optimized operating costs in the era of cloud computing.

In addition to selling the BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager in Japan, Fujitsu's partnership with BMC Software also includes joint performance testing at Fujitsu's Cloud Infrastructure Center and collaborative business activities.

The partnership with BMC Software will help Fujitsu to support its customers in the coming era of cloud computing with optimized solutions for datacenter automation.

Comments from Larry Vaughan, Vice President, Sales & Services, Worldwide Emerging Markets, BMC Software

"As private and hybrid cloud adoption continues to grow in the enterprise, it's become increasingly important for organizations to maintain a consistent service management layer throughout the data center," said Larry Vaughan, worldwide vice president of emerging markets at BMC Software. "Automation is a key component of cloud environments, and we are pleased that Fujitsu is offering BMC BladeLogic Operations Manager to help their customers enable and manage their critical cloud initiatives."
