Fujitsu Updates Business PC Lineups

Fujitsu Limited today announced across-the-line updates for its FMV-ESPRIMO desktop and FMV-LIFEBOOK laptop business PCs, comprising a total of seven series and 31 models⁽¹⁾. Sales of the new models begin in Japan today.

In addition to improvements to basic features, such as CPUs, the new models are highly energy-efficient and meet both current standards under the international ENERGY STAR® program⁽²⁾ and the program's new standards that go into effect July 1, 2009. The FMV-ESPRIMO line includes a new model with industry-leading energy efficiency of 24W. In addition, by using power-saving liquid-crystal displays (LCDs), power requirements were reduced by roughly 30%⁽³⁾ compared to Fujitsu's previous models. With its diverse and environmentally friendly lineup, Fujitsu offers PC models to meet the varied needs of its enterprise customers.

The FMV-ESPRIMO line complies with the latest international ENERGY STAR® program standards. The FMV-D5180 model achieves industry-leading energy efficiency of 24W, for a 50% reduction in power requirement⁽⁴⁾ compared to the fiscal 2006 model. The use of power-saving liquid-crystal panels enables a 30% reduction in the power requirement for the VL-177SEL LCDs. Further power reduction is made possible by combining VL-177SEL with a switched convenience outlet⁽⁵⁾.

The FMV-LIFEBOOK line also meets the latest ENERGY STAR® standards. All models come standard with a battery utility function, which features a special 80% battery-charging mode that can extend battery life by 50%⁽⁶⁾. The FMV-A8280 includes a widescreen 15.6" LCD panel and Intel® Celeron® dual-core processor to meet the needs of a broad spectrum of users. All models also come with Windows Vista™ Business with an optional downgrade service⁽⁷⁾.

1. Energy-efficient design

• With high energy efficiency and eco-friendliness, the compact FMV-D5380, FMV-D5280 (some models only), and FMV-D5180 all meet the new international ENERGY STAR® program standards to take effect July 1, 2009.
• The FMV-D5180 uses a power-saving CPU and hard disk drive to run on only 24W of power, approximately half a comparable fiscal 2006 model. Fujitsu's VL-177SEL display, which consumes 30% less power than its predecessors, was selected for this model, resulting in still greater power savings.
• The all-in-one FMV-K5280 (17" display) uses an energy-efficient LCD and power-saving CPU to cut power consumption by 47%⁽⁸⁾ compared to a separate screen and desktop-computer setup.
• All models come standard with a power switch that turns off power completely, eliminating power consumption during standby time.
• As with previous models, the new models include a switched convenience outlet that cuts off power to the display when the computer is turned off, eliminating the problem of unintentionally leaving a display on.
• Fujitsu's VL Series⁽⁹⁾ of LCDs includes an optical sensor that detects ambient light and adjusts screen brightness accordingly as well as a proximity sensor that detects whether a person is in front of the screen, so that it can automatically turn the display off when a user leaves their seat. The combination of the two features further enhances energy efficiency of the desktop series.

2. Enhanced usability

• The 24-hour model of the FMV-D5280 utilizes long-life components for the hard disk drive, power supply, and fan, delivering reliable 24-hour continuous operation, with a five-year warranty. By meeting the radio wave standard for medical equipment, and the safety and radio wave standards for IT equipment⁽¹⁰⁾, the model complies with Japan's revised Pharmaceutical Affairs Law.
• The FMV-D5380 includes support for Intel® vPro™ technology for enhanced security, post-deployment maintenance, and manageability.

3. Customization option

• As part of the FMV Custom Made Plus build-to-order service, all models are available with interchangeable front panels in different colors. Customers can also print their own designs for added customization.

• FMV-E8280, FMV-A8280 and FMV-S8380 models powered by the Core™ 2 Duo processors, and FMV-R8280 models all meet the new international ENERGY STAR® program standards to take effect on July 1, 2009.
• All models come standard with a battery utility function, which includes a special 80% battery-charging mode that can extend battery life by 50%.

2. Diverse lineup from A4 paper-sized models to smaller mobile models

• The A4 paper-sized widescreen standard FMV-A8280 is available with widescreen 15.6" and 15.4" LCDs.
• The A4 paper-sized widescreen advanced FMV-E8280 is available in build-to-order configuration with an Intel® Centrino® processor with vPro™ technology for enhanced security, maintenance, and manageability.
• 14.1" and 13.3" widescreen FMV-S8380 and 12.1" widescreen FMV-R8280 are equipped with 3-D accelerometer sensors that protect the data on the hard disk drive when the PC is impacted or dropped. In addition, battery runtime for FMV-S8380 is extended by approximately 30%⁽¹¹⁾ beyond Fujitsu's previous models for improved mobility.

For everyone from individuals and SOHO business customers to mid-sized enterprises, two attractively priced models are offered in the FMV Value Series: the FMV-D3280, a compact desktop with excellent cost-performance and enhanced CPU and other basic functionality, and the FMV-A6280, a widescreen 15.6" LCD notebook.
