Fujitsu Releases High-performance, Energy-saving 48-port Ethernet Switch
– Highly reliable SR-S348TC1 connects servers and PCs with efficiency –
Fujitsu Limited
Tokyo, April 13, 2009
Fujitsu Limited today announced the development of a new compact Ethernet switch, the SR-S348TC1, which combines low power consumption with fast data throughput for use in datacenters and corporate networks that handle large volumes of data. The new switch is available beginning today.
The new switch houses 48 1G ports in a 1U-sized(1) chassis that is the same size as Fujitsu's previous 24-port model, and allows for an additional four 10G ports to support blade and other high-performance servers, which have become datacenter mainstays in recent years. The switch runs on 27% less power(2) than previous models and complies with RoHS(3) regulations to reduce the burden on the environment. In addition, by accommodating a higher number of ports in a compact housing, it also reduces installed rack space by 50% as compared to Fujitsu's previous models.
Fujitsu has already begun to deploy the new switch in its own datacenters.
In recent years, companies have begun to shift all of their operational functions to run over networks by installing high-performance servers, PCs, and printers that can process enormous volumes of data. As a result, demand has increased for reliable and secure switches with eco-friendly features able to efficiently connect the equipment to company networks.
Fujitsu has been meeting these needs through its high-performance, highly reliable SR-S series of switches. Now, with the introduction of the SR-S348TC1, it offers a 48-port switch with a 1G high-speed interface for PC and server connections, along with a 10G interface for backbone network connections.
Used in datacenters or for backbone networks, this switch will allow for faster throughput while minimizing space and power requirements.
Fujitsu is also releasing today the SR-S248TC1 with 48 100M ports, which is ideal for use in connecting PC networks.
System Overview
Features of the SR-S348TC1
- Efficient server and PC connectivity
The new switch supports up to 48 1G ports in a 1U-sized chassis and four 10G ports (optional). An optimal switch solution for datacenter operations and server/PC connectivity.
- Environmentally conscious design
Equipped with a sensor monitoring power consumption, the switch uses 27% less electricity than previous models from Fujitsu and complies with the RoHS directive on the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, thereby meeting the needs of environmentally conscious customers. In addition, it can be deployed efficiently in datacenters and other data-intensive environments.
- Supports SR-S Administrative Software V12
The switch is standardized with the extensively field-tested SR-S administrative software package V12, which implements advanced network-authentication functions (IEEE802.1X, Web, MAC address, and ARP), as well as high-reliability functions (link-down relay, L2 loop detection and prevention, backup port, and spanning tree(4)), giving customers greater security and peace of mind in their network operations.
- Rated at the highest level of commercial security, ISO/IEC15408 EAL4+
The SR-S Security Software V01.01 has earned the ISO/IEC15408 EAL4+ security rating, the highest level for commercial products, giving customers who place a priority on security and reliability greater peace of mind.
This product will be on display at Fujitsu Forum 2009, running May 14–15 at the Tokyo International Forum (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo)
