Fujitsu in Leaders Quadrants of Application Infrastructure Software Research Reports

- Sales for Fujitsu Interstage Suite in North America and Europe grew by 92 percent in FY 2007 -

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, January 22, 2009

Fujitsu was positioned in the leader's quadrant in two Gartner Magic Quadrant reports on Application Infrastructure Software for New Systematic SOA Application Projects and Back-End Application Integration Projects.

Additionally, Fujitsu reported that it continues to see increasing demand for its Interstage® Suite, one of the world's broadest lines of application infrastructure software products. In FY 2007, sales of the Fujitsu Interstage Suite grew a combined 92 percent in the North American and European markets. Fujitsu attributes the growth to customers and partners selecting Interstage Suite products as the most suitable solutions for designing, deploying and managing their applications with a service-oriented architecture (SOA) approach.

Magic Quadrant for Application Infrastructure for New Systematic SOA Application Projects (1)

Gartner defines application infrastructure as "the technology that underlies and enables development, deployment and execution of business applications." According to this report, "New service-oriented business applications require a complex collection of capabilities in runtime-enabling technologies and development tools."

Leaders in this Magic Quadrant "combine insightful understanding of the realities of the market, a reliable record, the ability to influence the market's direction, the capability to attract and keep a following, and the capacity to lead. A leader has the proven ability to deliver on its vision, and to support its customers through periods of stability, as well as periods of change. Leaders control most of the market's business activity, and are the primary influencers of market evolution. However, a leader is not always the best choice for a particular user's project. A focused, smaller vendor can provide excellent support and commitment to individual mainstream customers, especially when geographic or vertical-industry specifics are of importance. With some notable exceptions, leaders are typically large vendors with long-term industry records. They represent safe choices, but they are not necessarily the state-of-the-art vendors, or the industry innovation leaders. Some are also known to be mostly focused on their larger customers, leaving the rest of the installed base with less-than-stellar support or pricing options. In this relatively conservative market, leadership is earned through a well-established record of execution and vision. It also requires the stability and reliability of a proven vendor — such qualities include a long-term presence in the market and, as a result, leaders are typically the largest vendors in the market. However, longevity alone does not make a leader (as this quadrant clearly shows); leaders may not be first to adopt some breakthrough innovations, but they retain the agility to not fall behind the market in new directions. The market is mature and well-established, and entry of a new vendor into a leadership position is difficult."

Magic Quadrant for Application Infrastructure for Back-End Application Integration Projects (2)

In this report, Gartner "emphasizes product capabilities most relevant to projects that have, as their primary objective, integration of the back-end data and business logic of applications. These projects deliver increased cohesion and unified access to resources of purchased packages; enterprise legacy products; and applications that are new and custom-designed from other relevant enterprises or that are provided by service providers."

Leaders in this Magic Quadrant have "a proven and comprehensive integrated product set, as well as a sizeable installed base of reasonably satisfied clients that extends internationally. They have an ample installed base of products to cross-sell their integration solutions to, and have demonstrated their ability to anticipate technology and market trends over the years by extending their offerings with composite, application-enabling technology." Furthermore, "leaders manifest their understanding of the problem space by providing innovative features, and by extending their integration technology to support initiatives, such as SOA and BPM."

"In my opinion, our position in these Magic Quadrant reports reflects our ongoing commitment to respond to the needs of our customers with a broad array of solutions that meet real-world needs," said Akira Yamanaka, corporate vice president and president of the Software Unit, Fujitsu Limited. "We continue to support our customers' business improvement initiatives by delivering technologies that aid the visualization and continuous optimization of processes in an SOA environment."
