Fujitsu Opens Data Center in Thailand

Offering high-quality services to improve stability of Japanese corporations’ IT operations in Thailand

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, March 31, 2008

Fujitsu Limited today announced that affiliate Fujitsu Systems Business (Thailand) Ltd. has opened a new data center in the Bang Na district of Bangkok, and has begun offering services to Japanese companies doing business in Thailand.

The newly constructed data center is equipped with a wide range of prevention features, including fire and water-leak detection systems. Main and spare power lines, UPS (uninterruptible power supply), and an on-site power generator will assure continuous systems operation even in the event of trouble, giving the center the flexibility to respond to demanding and diverse customer requirements. In addition, with Fujitsu’s own PalmSecure palm vein biometric authentication system, the facility has strict access management controls and other high-security features. Leveraging the Fujitsu Group’s data center technology and operational expertise gained from its growing network of 80 data centers in 16 countries around the world, the new data center in Bangkok will provide high-quality data center services.

Background

Thailand is quickly emerging as a regional manufacturing hub as more Japanese companies set up local operations in the country. The business environment is developing rapidly as a result of the establishment of investment rules and the liberalization of the services sector, and this is expected to encourage more Japanese corporations to invest in Thailand.

With the growing importance placed on business continuity, companies today need to ensure that their information systems remain operational under any condition. Operational risks, such as electrical service being disrupted by floods or typhoons, have become more apparent, and maintaining the quality and continuity of electrical and communications lines for stable systems operations is a top priority for Japanese companies with facilities in Thailand.

With these factors as a backdrop, following the successful establishment of Fujitsu data centers in Singapore and Malaysia, Fujitsu Systems Business (Thailand) established its new data center in Thailand.

Overview of New Data Center

  1. Location: 15 minutes by car from Bangkok city center
  2. Structure: Air-conditioned, UPS, on-site power generation, one-ton floor capacity per square meter
  3. Security: Palm vein authentication used for access control; security cameras; non-contact access cards

Operators are on-site 24 hours a day at the center, monitoring customer system status, with managers making periodic incident reports and operating status reports, to provide a level of service on par with data centers in Japan. Staff can handle a wide range of services in Thai, English, and Japanese. Because the data center also houses an international network access point, it has a reliable connection to the Internet. Moreover, the center ties into both overland network lines as well as submarine cables, minimizing the risk of downtime from earthquakes or other natural disasters.

With its focus on operational services, the Fujitsu Group supports the entire lifecycle of customer systems, from planning to design and construction. Fujitsu has positioned data center services as a core business and is committed to using the centers to help customers expand their business and raise their competitiveness around the world.
