Fujitsu Limited
Tokyo, March 03, 2008
Fujitsu Limited today announced that Fujitsu Accessibility Assistance, a set of three software tools for diagnosing and improving web accessibility(1) , has passed the milestone of 200,000 downloads(2) worldwide.
Fujitsu Accessibility Assistance consists of the software tools Web Accessibility Inspector, ColorSelector, and ColorDoctor. The tools are used by website creators for judging whether a designed website is easy to use for the elderly and people with visual or color-vision impairments. Since July 2003, Fujitsu has offered free downloads of the software in Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and English.
As recognition of its contribution to the promotion of universal design, the software was recently awarded the universal design award 08(3). Among the 36 products and services awarded, Fujitsu Accessibility Assistance was the sole software product for improving website accessibility. The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in Hanover, Germany on March 5, 2008, during the CeBIT exhibition March 4-9, where Fujitsu Accessibility Assistance is on display.
Background
In recent years, there has been an increasing need to create websites that are easy for anyone to use, resulting in the drafting of standards and policies setting out the minimum requirements that websites should meet.
Based on the fundamental concept of universal design, Fujitsu has been actively working to promote the creation of websites that are easy to use, attractive, and readily understandable to all users. One key initiative in this area has been to provide Fujitsu Accessibility Assistance free to website creators and designers around the world in order to improve website accessibility for the elderly and visually impaired.
Fujitsu Accessibility Assistance is a comprehensive suite of diagnostic software for website accessibility. Web Accessibility Inspector is a tool for confirming the level of accessibility of a website. ColorSelector judges whether the combination of background and text colors results in a page that is easy to read. ColorDoctor simulates the display content according to grayscale and other color characteristics.
Website developers worldwide have adopted Fujitsu Accessibility Assistance because of its simplicity and ease of use.
