Eudyna and Fujitsu Develop Ultra Small, Low Power XFP Transceiver

Eudyna Devices USA Inc.,Fujitsu Limited

San Jose, CA, USA and Tokyo, Japan, May 10, 2004

Eudyna Devices USA Inc. (EUDU), a leading supplier of optical components, and Fujitsu Limited, a leading provider of customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, today announced that they have started sampling 40km 1550nm 10 Gigabit small form-factor pluggable transceivers (XFP) to 10-Gigabit SONET and Ethernet network equipment manufacturers. Eudyna Devices and Fujitsu have jointly developed the transceivers, which utilize Fujitsu's high level module development technology, Eudyna's high performance Modulator Integrated Laser in a small TOSA package enabling over 40km transmission, and Eudyna's high performance PIN receiver in a compact ROSA package.

This ultra small, low power transceiver has been standardized by the XFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) group to allow communication equipment manufacturers to design high port-density 10Gbps optical line cards at lower costs. The hot pluggable feature enables the OEM to reduce manufacturing cost and inventory and allows optical port upgrades and flexibility at the customers' premise at any point in time.

The transceiver has been designed to comply with SONET OC-192 IR-2 / SDH S-64.2b and 10Gbps Ethernet IEEE802.3ae 10GBASE-ER standards.

Eudyna and Fujitsu are already supplying 10km 1310nm XFP transceivers, which comply with SONET OC-192 SR-1 and 10Gbps Ethernet 10GBASE-LR, to several customers and are planning to develop 80km and DWDM versions to support all SONET, DWDM and 10G Ethernet applications with the XFP package.

Eudyna's products include devices for fiber optic digital telecommunications applications in the 622 Mbs - 40 Gb/s range (laser diodes, receiver modules, GaAs IC's, LN modulators, XFPs, SFPs, and 300 pin MSA transponders*), and analog lasers for CATV applications (broadcast and return path). Eudyna produces lasers at ITU grid wavelengths for DWDM systems. Eudyna's products also include microwave and millimeter wave RF devices for cellular, handset, broadcast and satellite communications. LN modulators and 300 pin MSA transponders are produced by Fujitsu Limited and distributed by Eudyna USA Inc.
