Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX:CSN), the world leader in business intelligence (BI) and performance management, and Fujitsu Limited, a leading provider of customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, today announced a strategic alliance encompassing cooperative product development, sales, and support. As a first step, Cognos PowerPlay, a key component of Cognos Series 7, and Fujitsu Limited's Symfoware Navigator will be tightly integrated and initially targeted at existing and new enterprise customers in Japan.

Cognos Series 7 is the industry's most comprehensive, enterprise-class BI solution, offering mission-critical performance, reliability, and scalability, as well as unique operational event detection and alerting to wireless devices. Its integration with Symfoware Navigator, a leading information building and delivery tool for multidimensional output from a relational database and a flexible, scalable 64-bit OLAP software, provides enterprise customers with the ability to build applications, which present large volumes of data to users for analysis and exploration in a scalable and usable fashion.

"Enterprise customers look to Fujitsu to provide the most scalable and advanced solutions and platforms on which to run their businesses," said Yoshiyuki Tanakura, Group President, Software Group, Fujitsu Limited. "Cognos and Fujitsu have a shared vision around corporate performance management and we are pleased to extend our leadership into BI through this strategic partnership with the world's leading BI company - Cognos. Today, more than ever, BI is in demand because it provides organizations the ability to maximize profit by expanding business, increasing efficiency, and optimizing resources deployment. We believe that our integrated solution will provide tremendous benefits to our mutual customers who have such critical business requirements."

"Cognos has long been recognized as the global leader in the business intelligence market and is currently breaking new ground in corporate performance management," said Ron Zambonini, Cognos Chief Executive Officer. "We are very excited to be announcing this alliance with Fujitsu Limited, an industry leader. The combined solution, with the full backing of both companies, opens up exciting opportunities for us to jointly take a best-of-breed, fully integrated solution to enterprise customers in Japan."

Combining the capabilities of two market-leading companies, with the industry-leading capabilities of Cognos PowerPlay and Fujitsu Limited's Symfoware Navigator, the agreement offers enterprise customers in Japan a robust, scalable and fully locally supported solution for their business critical decision-making environments. The joint solution will allow a consistent, unified view of business processes, ensuring that the appropriate information gets to the right people, at the right time, and in the most usable format. Cognos and Fujitsu will also establish a collaborative support and services organization to provide enterprise customers with high quality support and services.

"Cognos is very excited to be entering into this global strategic alliance with Fujitsu," said Patrick O'Leary, Cognos vice president of strategic alliances. "While the initial sales thrust will be focused on the Japanese market, Cognos is committed to exploring global opportunities to expand this partnership as they arise."
