GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2011 GLOVIA Smart Kirara OCR

At shopping center (SC) developers, skilled workers visually check sales bulletin data against the respective tenant's payment receipts (original copies) in different formats on a day-to-day basis, to calculate tenant sales-based rent. We designed a system for (i) processing payment receipts in various formats and converting them into electronic data using character recognition technologies and (ii) automating the checking process. The GUI was designed with both novice and senior users in mind. Indeed, this innovative OCR solution (first in the industry) revolutionizes SC management operations and work styles, reducing environmental impact by converting paper documents into electronic data, thereby increasing the efficiency of tenant management operations by about 70%.

Examination Committee Evaluation Comments

In SC tenant management operations, data cannot be managed online because respective tenants employ different sales management systems. There are two possible solutions: (i) develop a system in which data can be shared across different systems, or (ii) manually convert the data format. GLOVIA Smart Kirara OCR helps bridge the gap between these solutions. Although the technique is not necessarily new, we highly evaluated this product for its focus on providing an inexpensive yet realistic solution for enhancing the efficiency of tenant management operations.
