FEATURES
- Large capacity: Massive capacity has been achieved through the use of a GDT (Glass Direct Texture) Media *1 allowing up to 10.7Gb/cm2 (69.3Gb/in 2) high density and up to 40GB*2 per disk, 80GB*2 per drive (2 disks) high capacity.
- Improvement for Shock Tolerance: FDB (Fluid Dynamic Bearing) spindle motor *3 and Head Load/Unload mechanism *4 enable in high shock tolerance. The drives withstand up to 900Go-p (duration 1ms) non-operating shock and up to 225Go-p (duration 2ms) operating shock.
- Improvement for Silence: FDB spindle motor and the improvement of seek control *5 are incorporated for silent operation.
- Reduction of Power Consumption: Power consumption under the read/write operation is reduced about 10% by New LSI technology.
- High Performance: Read Ahead Cache *6 and Write Reordering Cache *7 enable the drives to execute read and write operation in high speed.
- High Reliability: 320bit length ECC (Error Correction Code) and S.M.A.R.T *8 function enable the drives to improve the data reliability.
Notes:
*1: A new type of media incorporating a new glass disk texturing process which dramatically increases the electromagnetic
conversion properties in achieving greater areal density.
*2: Fujitsu defines 1 gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes for Hard Disk Drives' storage capacity size.
*3: The spindle motor which use the oil for the rotational bearing to rotate the disk.
*4: The mechanism to unload the heads to outside of media to eliminate the interference between heads and media.
*5: The data head moving operation for radius direction of the disk.
*6: The read ahead reading function for the consecutive data read command.
*7: The function for reducing the operational time by managing the order of multiple write commands.
*8: The function for monitoring the operation in HDD and forecasting the failure.

Notes:
1: Current and power level when the operation (command) that accompanies a transfer of 63 sectors is executed 3 times in 100
ms.
2: Energy efficiency based on the Law Concerning the Rational Use of Energy indicates the value obtained by dividing power
consumption by the storage capacity. (Japan only)
