Fujitsu’s FUTRO Z220 Thin Client Delivers Big Performance and Cost Savings in a Small Form Factor

Fujitsu Technology Solutions

Munich, October 10, 2012

News facts:

  • The FUTRO Z220 is Fujitsu’s first system-on-a-chip thin client based on ARM architecture rounding out the Thin Client portfolio
  • Customers can choose from two different operating modes, either fully managed based on the market-leading Scout Enterprise management solution, or the economical auto-adaptive mode that automatically connects to their preferred backend infrastructure
  • Businesses benefit from cost savings, but can easily upgrade to the fully-managed system if necessary by purchasing the Scout Enterprise license
Fujitsu today unveils the FUTRO Z220, the next-generation thin client with a system-on-a-chip (SoC) design based on powerful and efficient ARM architecture, with integrated hardware-based protocol acceleration. Bridging the gap between Zero Client and Thin Client systems, it provides a versatile and economical entry into server-based-computing and virtual desktop infrastructure environments.

An important benefit to customers considering a thin client environment, the Fujitsu FUTRO Z220 for the first time offers a choice in operating modes: either fully auto-adaptive or fully managed. For small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that do not need the full management, the auto-adaptive option saves costs by eliminating any management efforts. Connecting instantly to existing server-based computing and virtual desktop infrastructure environments, this option requires no installation or management effort. The fully-managed option with Scout Enterprise provides larger businesses all the benefits of a thin-client system with best-in-class management software for easy administration.

Recognizing that business needs change, the Fujitsu FUTRO Z220 uniquely allows customers to upgrade from auto-adaptive mode to a fully managed system at a later point if required.

Smaller than most office desk phones, the Fujitsu FUTRO Z220’s slim design is the result of an efficient new ARM architecture requiring lower power consumption while providing outstanding performance. This also allows for a fan-less design, providing a quiet work environment. The user experience remains easy and familiar, with the specially designed eLux® RT operating system.

The Fujitsu FUTRO Z220 will be on display at,
Citrix Synergy™ in Barcelona, October 17-19, 2012
Fujitsu Forum at the ICM in Munich, November 7-8, 2012

It can be ordered beginning in early November, and shipping will start in January 2013. Fujitsu’s FUTRO Z220 is available through resellers or online at: http://ts.fujitsu.com/resellerlocator/.

Depending on customer requirements for manageability, it can also support Scout Enterprise software to optimize the central administration of large thin client infrastructures.”
