Fujitsu’s PRIMERGY RX900 S1 Sets World Record TPC Benchmark

Two of Fujitsu’s servers rank in the top three for TPC-E performance, while also offering the best price/ performance ratio

Munich, October 07, 2010

Fujitsu today announces that the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) has ranked two of Fujitsu’s servers in the top ten for TPC-E performance, with the PRIMERGY RX900 S1 as the top performing server system, and the PRIMERGY RX600 S5 as best 4-socket server at number three. According to the TPC-E rankings, Fujitsu’s PRIMERGY servers are not only the most powerful servers in the world, but are also the ones with best price performance of the top ten.

Ranked as number one in the TCP-E Benchmark, the recently launched PRIMERGY RX900 S1 (1) is a highly scalable 8-socket rack server. Companies can deploy centralized mission-critical workloads on the PRIMERGY RX900 S1 even for extreme performance requirements, as the rack server scales up on demand with no need to change or re-arrangement rack infrastructures. Without additional hardware requirements to run all eight CPUs, the PRIMERGY RX900 S1 provides the shortest route between processors, memory modules and I/O hubs, resulting in the best performance and connectivity speed.

At a lower price-point, as the best 4-socket system and ranked third overall in the TPC-E benchmark, the PRIMERGY RX600 S5 (2)  server is designed for customers in the upper-mid-market as well as large enterprises. With huge memory capacity, the four socket server is ideal for running a bank of virtual machines and for backend services such as databases and e-commerce systems, as well as resource-hungry ERP and CRM systems.

The Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) defines transaction processing and database benchmarks to independently evaluate the power and performance of modern On-line Transaction Processing (OLTP) Systems.

Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice President Datacenter Systems at Fujitsu Technology Solutions says, “Customers are reducing operational costs by consolidating older dual- and quad-socket servers, and replacing UNIX servers in favor of industry-standard flexibility and price performance. For customers who are considering making a switch, the TCP-E Benchmark provides an independent source that shows Fujitsu’s servers are not only delivering top performance, but also offer the best price/performance ratio.”

About the TCP Benchmark

TPC Benchmark™ E (TPC-E) is a new On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) workload developed by the TPC. The TPC-E benchmark simulates the OLTP workload of a brokerage firm. The focus of the benchmark is the central database that executes transactions related to the firm’s customer accounts. Although the underlying business model of TPC-E is a brokerage firm, the database schema, data population, transactions, and implementation rules have been designed to be broadly representative of modern OLTP systems.
