PRIMEPOWER 1 - a super thin UNIX server for rack mount deployment in the data center

Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited

Hong Kong, May 20, 2001

Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited introduces a new ultra-thin Solaris-based PRIMEPOWER UNIX server called PRIMEPOWER 1. It is designed to save space for data center environments. This super thin server is now available in Hong Kong.

PRIMEPOWER 1 is a space saving 1U server with only 1.75-inch height and is designed for rack-mount arrangements. It can be used either as a single entry-level dedicated server or in flexible and scalable server performance cluster. A maximum of 36 of these servers can be mounted in an industry standard 1,800mm PRIMEPOWER rack.

PRIMEPOWER 1 runs on a 500MHz UltraSPARC IIe processor, supporting a maximum of 2G bytes of memory and 72.8G bytes of disk capacity. It also provides high reliability through ECC protection of memory. The standard dual LAN ports also mean the network load can be distributed and balanced without any other additional equipment. The UltraSPARC IIe processors are used for net appliance products. They are fully compliant with the 64-bit SPARC v9 architecture specification and provide excellent performance while generating very little heat. This makes the PRIMEPOWER 1 an ideal for mass racking in industry standard racks. It also suits other dedicated tasks such as Firewalls, DNS, Proxy and WWW servers. Hence PRIMEPOWER 1 allows a full function web center to be miniaturized and built in a single rack.

Fujitsu has a long history in offering customizable PRIMEPOWER servers across the entire spectrum of data center requirements - from 1-processor servers to 128-processor servers, the highest-capacity commercial UNIX systems in the marketplace. Same as others, PRIMEPOWER 1 features a system bus with crossbar switch technology adapted from Fujitsu mainframe design, resulting in a high super data transfer rate.

In today's new Internet-based business models, server functionally is increasingly being concentrated in large data centers in order to lower the overhead costs, to provide configuration flexibility as well as service reliability. Thus Fujitsu's new PRIMEPOWER 1, a rack mountable server, is designed to meet these requirements. Please call Fujitsu Hong Kong Limited Product Hotline: 2828 2833 for further information.
