High Throughput UltraSPARC T2/T2 Plus Processors
As a result of their multi-thread/multi-core processors, SPARC Enterprise Models T5240 and T5140 using UltraSPARC T2 Plus, and Models T5220 and T5120 using UltraSPARC T2, have twice the throughput of previous models. This is enabled by double the number of threads (64 compared to 32 in T1000/T2000), and matched by enhanced parallel threading execution, from two calculation units per core.
Dense 65 nm semi-conductor technology has enabled the integration of two new performance acceleration units per core. One for floating point arithmetic and the other for in-line encryption/decryption calculations. Integrated on chip controllers for memory, PCI-Express and 10Gbps Ethernet(*1) interfaces further enhance performance and capability. UltraSPARC T2 Plus processors also feature imbedded memory control logic, including memory coherence units.
Addition of such high performance features has also been achieved without major increases in power consumption. The high performance UltraSPARC T2 only consumes Max.123 Watts and UltraSPARC T2 Plus Max.132 Watts.
Based on this processor high throughput performance and low power consumption, SPARC Enterprise further improves throughput performance using multiprocessor architecture. Up to 2 processors are incorporated into T5140 and T5240. This further improves rack density performance with compact 1U (T5140) and 2U (T5240) chassis options.

High Performance Technologies
Multi-core
Excellent CPU chip performance is provided by incorporating multiple CPU cores on a singe CPU chip. UltraSPARC T2 and T2 Plus have Max.8 cores per CPU chip and provide much improved multi-threading and parallel processing performance from 64 simultaneous threads.
Multi-threading
Multi-thread technology enables each single CPU core to run in parallel. UltraSPARC T2 and T2 Plus have 8 threads per core with 2 threads operating in parallel on each CPU clock cycle.

To reduce processing time UltraSPARC T2 and T2 Plus processors have twice the number of threads per core and twice the number of calculation units per core. This combination of matched enhancements provides the processing time improvements.
By parallel processing using the dual calculation units per core, two threads can be executed at a time, improving performance in parallel processing applications.
Encryption/decryption processing unit
The inclusion of a dedicated processing unit per core means encryption/decryption is handled faster than ever. This inline security enhancement provides improved secure application performance without program modification. The in-built mechanism supports major encryption methods including DES, 3DES, AES, RC4, SHA1, SHA256, MD5, RSA to 2048 key, ECC, CRC32.
