Today, Fujitsu introduced Virtuora® Intelligent Control, a powerful RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) platform that simplifies 5G Open RAN lifecycle automation and management - from network configuration and deployment through operation, optimization and expansion. An integral part of Fujitsu’s end-to-end Open RAN stack, Virtuora Intelligent Control tames complex multi-vendor networks, enabling peak performance while supporting multi-domain capabilities.
As disaggregated 5G networks support a wider variety of services and higher density of devices, static network management configurations are no longer sufficient to handle rapidly escalating complexity. Fujitsu’s open API-based Virtuora Intelligent Control platform unleashes advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) algorithms for sophisticated scenario modeling and decision-making, providing intelligent control to manage and orchestrate across a wider range of network infrastructure.
Virtuora Intelligent Control features a comprehensive dashboard that offers deep insights into network performance and operations with a customizable Apps list and services catalog view. With intelligent automation, the RIC enables real-time decision making and autonomous network management to streamline network operations. Moreover, data-driven optimization capabilities help create monetization opportunities such as RAN slicing, service customization and personalization.
This new platform includes both non real-time (non-RT) and near-RT RIC functions, working together with the Virtuora Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) framework to enable RAN service provisioning, intelligent RAN optimization and network healing to meet high quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) expectations. This solution is backed by a robust software development kit (SDK) from Fujitsu, facilitating development of third-party applications to address a broad range of functionalities. Sample rApps that demonstrate the use of R1 APIs as well as SMO services such as O1 related operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) are also available.
To maximize RIC functionality, Fujitsu also has developed a collection of AI-powered network applications to significantly improve QoS and increase energy efficiency. The Fujitsu rApp has demonstrated power savings of more than 20 percent by using intelligent traffic estimates to dynamically switch network capacity on or off as needed without impacting service continuity.
“Virtuora Intelligent Control expands Fujitsu’s industry-leading portfolio of intelligent software solutions based on open networking expertise to simplify multi-vendor architectures,” said Greg Manganello, senior vice president of the network software and integration business unit at Fujitsu. “Together with our Virtuora Intelligent Applications, this RIC platform helps operators deploying Open RAN streamline complex network operations, improve performance, and speed service delivery. The platform also gives operators new tools to generate additional revenue streams and boost profitability.”
