Fujitsu introduces intelligent Virtuora OLS-Designer
September 16, 2024
Today, Fujitsu introduced Virtuora® OLS-Designer, an intelligent network tool to plan and design open optical networks. OLS-Designer uses machine learning (ML) to generate digital twin models from real-time optical network data and speeds up, simplifies, and optimizes the process of multivendor network planning, design, and testing.
As optical network infrastructure becomes increasingly disaggregated, components from different vendors can be mixed and matched to speed innovation, avoid vendor lock-in, and reduce costs. Yet, most planning and design tools don’t support multivendor networks, requiring manual field measurements. This not only complicates and slows network planning and design, but often results in static optical network models and costly stranded capacity that goes unused.
Available in early 2025 as part of Virtuora PD, OLS-Designer develops a digital twin of the optical line system based on real-time data, transponder configurations, and ROADM topology. OLS-Designer enables intelligent network planning with transponder reachability assessments, and optimal modulation format and data rate recommendations for peak network performance and scalability. The tool employs ML insights to continuously train and improve the accuracy of OLS network designs. It eliminates the need for manual field calculations, reducing operational costs while speeding service delivery with the highest possible capacity.
“With a long history of open networking expertise, Fujitsu delivers industry-leading solutions, tools and support that service providers need to take full advantage of optical OLS architectures without limitations,” said Rod Naphan, senior vice president and head of the photonics systems business unit at Fujitsu. “Virtuora OLS-Designer unleashes digital twin models and ML insights to streamline OLS network planning and deployment, reducing operational costs, maximizing total network capacity and accelerating services to market.”
