Fujitsu Networking Solution Honored by 2016 Lightwave Innovation Reviews

1FINITY™ + Virtuora® platforms create “The Programmable Disaggregated Network”

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.

Richardson, TX, March 17, 2016
Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc., announced today that the company’s 1FINITY™ + Virtuora® platforms were recognized by the 2016 Lightwave Innovation Reviews, earning 4.5 of 5 diamonds in the Optical Transport Platforms category. Judged by a panel of industry executives and analysts from a variety of service providers, technology developers, industry analysts, and journalists, the Fujitsu networking solution was deemed a “superb product that sets a new standard for performance and provides groundbreaking and new technical milestones.”

The 1FINITY + Virtuora platforms help service providers achieve global operation of their networks with the programmable, open, and modular 1FINITY blade architecture and multilayer, multivendor Virtuora NC management system software.

The unique disaggregated design of the 1FINITY platform has taken the separate functions of a traditional converged shelf and removed costly technical and performance limitations. With an open and logically aggregated architecture, service providers can use modular 1RU system blades for each function, investing only in the blades they need. This approach allows rapid innovation and reduces time to market. 1FINITY blades are independent, they can be integrated with other technologies, and they avoid shelf constraints including backplane performance, space, thermal considerations, and power.

The Virtuora platform is a comprehensive, adaptable, modular suite of software products that service providers can use to build and grow virtualized programmable networks. The VIRTUORA product suite encompasses software-defined network (SDN) control, network planning and design, network management, service fulfillment, and assurance functions — providing a standards-based, software-driven implementation for end-to-end management of services. Virtuora NC delivers a rigorously tested, ready to deploy, OpenDaylight (ODL) controller that eliminates the risk of vendor lock-in. The result is a lower-cost, portable, scalable platform that exceeds the capabilities of either the basic ODL controller or a vendor-proprietary controller.

“On behalf of the Lightwave Innovation Reviews, I would like to congratulate Fujitsu on an outstanding 4.5 Diamonds score,” said Rob Stuehrk, Lightwave Group Publisher. “The Innovation Reviews recognize unique products and solutions that help optical communications professionals worldwide drive improvements and innovation in optical technology. This year’s independent panel of judges found that:
  • ‘The system-on-a-blade 1FINITY architecture offers impressive efficient scaling and pay-as-you-grow flexibility including an open interface for SDN control.’
  • And, ‘... the pizza box packaging and open API software control package are intriguing.’
“Our sincere congratulations to Fujitsu for their very strong showing in this year’s Innovation Reviews.”

“The 1FINITY and Virtuora platforms give service providers the crucial building blocks needed to create game-changing networks that increase service velocity, grow revenue, and reduce operating costs,” said Rod Naphan, senior vice president and chief technology officer, Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. “With the combination of these two platforms, Fujitsu is the market leader in disaggregation and open architecture, and we are pleased to be recognized with such a high score from the esteemed panel at Lightwave.”
