Fujitsu Laboratories of America Introduces Innovative New Testing Platform for JavaScript-Based Mobile Web Applications

Platform automatically generates a suite of high-coverage test cases through intelligent exploration of the user-interface scenarios and symbolic analysis of the JavaScript code

Sunnyvale, CA, February 11, 2015

Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. today announced the development of a testing platform technology for JavaScript-based mobile Web applications that can generate a high-quality suite of test cases for medium-sized mobile Web applications. This platform can reduce the time for test case generation from several days to a few hours greatly speeding up the development and deployment time for JavaScript-based mobile Web applications.

Mobile Web applications use the JavaScript language to implement a rich interactive user-interface, and typically support long sequences of user-interface events to accommodate the small form-factor of mobile devices. Currently, in order to cover complex behaviors of the JavaScript code and explore the deep event state space, test cases for testing such applications are written manually which can take several days to several weeks to develop. To address this problem, Fujitsu Laboratories of America has developed a testing platform for JavaScript-based mobile Web applications. For a given web application, this platform automatically generates a high quality suite of test cases, in a matter of hours.

“The proliferation of mobile Web applications has placed new demands on test engineers to ensure quality and security of software being deployed,” said Yasunori Kimura, President and CEO of Fujitsu Laboratories of America. “We are pleased to apply our research innovations to offer new technology to support the explosive growth of this burgeoning industry.”

The testing platform automatically constructs a set of event sequences and computes associated test data to create a high-coverage suite of test cases to test a mobile web application. It applies powerful techniques based on symbolic execution technology to guide the event-sequence construction, picking only meaningful event-sequences from the exponentially large event state space. Symbolic execution is also used to automatically compute test data to exercise all possible execution paths in the JavaScript code. The platform also uses efficient state representation techniques to minimize memory consumption so as to handle the analysis of long event sequences supported in mobile Web applications.

Fujitsu Laboratories of America is currently evaluating market opportunities for the platform. For additional information please contact us at the address below.
