Genesco Upgrades More Than 1,000 Stores to Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XL2 Systems

Systems Deliver Increased Reliability, Significant Energy Savings and Reduced Maintenance Costs

Fujitsu America Inc.

Sunnyvale, CA (Marketwire), November 01, 2010

Fujitsu ( today announced that Genesco Inc., a leading North American shoe and headwear retailer, has successfully upgraded its point-of-sale (POS) infrastructure with the Fujitsu TeamPoS®3000 XL2 POS terminals in more than 1,000 stores. More than 2,000 terminals were upgraded in Genesco's Journeys, Journeys Kidz, Shi by Journeys stores and select Johnston & Murphy stores. Featuring the Intel® CoreTM2 Duo mobile processor, the Fujitsu systems offer Genesco increased reliability, significant energy savings and reduced maintenance costs, resulting in lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

News Highlights

  • The TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS system is based on the dual-core Intel® CoreTM2 Duo mobile processor (single-core option available). By implementing the mobile version of the dual-core processor, Fujitsu offers retailers powerful processing in a POS system that is as much as 40 percent more energy efficient than desktop architecture.
  • The system also offers the advantage of laptop components, such as hard drives, that are shock-resistant and ruggedized for the retail environment.
  • The TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS system features zero-ventilation side clearance. The systems have no side or back ventilation slots that require extra space, allowing systems to be installed flush against a back or side wall, maximizing valuable retail counter space.
  • In its Foothill Ranch, Calif., facility, Fujitsu configured and staged each Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS terminal used for the Genesco retail store rollout.
  • After Genesco piloted three companies for installing the systems, Fujitsu was chosen because of its professionalism, technical proficiencies and ability to respond quickly during the installation process.
  • After an initial pilot project involving 65 store locations during the fall of 2008, the rollout of the Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS terminals started February 3, 2009, and finished on time for back-to-school sales on July 31, 2009.
  • Fujitsu provided services such as project management expertise in coordinating and managing the installation team.
  • With the purchase and rollout of Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 XL2 POS terminals, Genesco expects to achieve savings on maintenance and replacement costs for years to come, benefiting from the proven superior reliability of Fujitsu POS equipment.

Rob Taylor, Senior Vice President Store Operations, Genesco Retail: "When looking to install almost 2,100 new POS terminals in more than 1,000 retail stores in 50 states, exceptional hardware is just half of the equation. We also look for a vendor that demonstrates attention to detail, good communication, high standards and disciplined execution. Upgrading systems can be very disruptive for the stores and losing even one sale is not an option. Fujitsu worked very well with our store operations and information systems teams to execute a near flawless rollout plan. Our success was the result of proper expectations, detailed planning, solid teamwork and execution demonstrated throughout the entire initiative. We set a 'Gold Standard' expectation for every location, and Fujitsu more than met our expectations. It was important to Genesco to develop a true partnership with our new POS equipment provider and Fujitsu has been just that during this very important and successful roll out."

Jeff Orton, Chief Information Officer, Genesco Inc.: "Originally we chose Fujitsu because of the company's reputation for solid products, innovation and collaborating with clients. What we discovered during the deployment is that, in addition to the TeamPoS 3000 XL2 terminal being a rugged and reliable POS system with superior speed and energy efficiency, Fujitsu offers excellent, professional services across the entire company. Fujitsu project managers and installers went out of their way to make the process as fast and painless as possible. Fujitsu has provided engineering and technical expertise, process and installation consulting, and has shown Genesco that it is willing to share in our success while helping to mitigate the risk of failure. We started as vendor and client and ended as business partners after this roll out. We look forward to continuing a long relationship with Fujitsu as Genesco continues to grow and update our store technology."

Bill Witte, Senior Vice President Customer Service, Fujitsu America: "Like so many retail companies, Genesco has discovered that Fujitsu is far more than just a company selling good products. We are committed to working with clients to help them meet their toughest business challenges through hardware, software and services that eliminate the immediate pain points around upgrading their systems, which ultimately positions them for ongoing business efficiency, competitiveness and low TCO."
