Fujitsu and LSI to Host Web Seminar on the Availability, Proven Interoperability and Benefits of Serial Attached SCSI

SAS storage solutions are providing users with greater freedom, flexibility and scalability to succeed.

Fujitsu Computer Products of America

Sunnyvale, CA, April 11, 2006

Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world’s leading suppliers of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals and biometric security solutions today announced the company will join with LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) to host a free web seminar on April 20 to discuss the performance and value of SAS storage technology. During this event, attendees will also learn about SAS solutions in the marketplace that are compatible with a wide range of certified enclosures.

Fujitsu announced its premier SAS solution in June 2005. Since then industry adoption has increased with LSI and Fujitsu continuing to lead the market with a diverse array of product offerings. The availability of SAS enclosures has also grown in the past year with multiple vendors now offering products that have been tested and proven compatible with Fujitsu 2.5" small form factor (SFF) SAS hard disk drives and the LSI family of SAS host bus adapters (HBA). With these advancements users can now easily leverage proven Serial Attached SCSI technology in data center environments with increased device support and bandwidth scalability, while reducing the overhead impact that challenges traditional SCSI environments.

"Fujitsu and LSI Logic have been pioneers in the SAS space by promoting product innovations and driving market adoption," said Mike Fitzpatrick, senior research executive, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "We worked together to bring the first SAS solution to market nearly one year ago and we will continue to work together to diversify product offerings and deliver industry leading SAS storage solutions to our customers."

"Through the deployment of SAS storage solutions users are achieving higher performance, improved reliability and increased scalability," said Charlie Kraus, director, HBA business unit, Storage Components Group, LSI Logic. "In the past year our customers have shown increased adoption of SAS solutions and we’re very pleased to be working with Fujitsu to advance and promote this proven technology."

SAS solutions using small form factor technology enable users to increase storage density within the same server footprint, while reducing heat and power requirements for blade servers, workstations, and enterprise data center environments. SAS technology enables SCSI interface solutions beyond Ultra320 to the next-generation Direct Attach Storage (DAS) enterprise server and high-performance workstation markets, while retaining device-level backward compatibility. The SAS standard defines a device-level enterprise storage interface incorporating SCSI command sets, serial point-to-point interconnections, dual porting, increased addressability and the ability to scale to a large number of spindles because of the small form factor drives. As the SAS physical layer is compatible with Serial ATA (SATA), users have the choice of populating their systems with either SAS or SATA hard disk drives.

In the upcoming web seminar, Mike Fitzpatrick and Charlie Kraus will discuss the availability of SAS, its proven interoperability with various enclosures, and the performance and cost savings that can be achieved through the deployment of SAS solutions, citing implementation strategies and real world success stories.
