Shigeru Sasaki was appointed CEO and Representative Director of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. in April 2016. As a Member of the Board since 2008, his prior executive appointments include former Corporate Executive Officer (2015) and Corporate Senior Vice President (2010). He concurrently serves as Chairman of Fujitsu Laboratories Group's global R&D sites in China (Fujitsu Research and Development Center Co., Ltd.: 2009), the U.K. (Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe Limited: 2013), and the U.S. (Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc.: 2014; former CEO:2015).
In addition to his executive and board member appointments, Mr. Sasaki has held prominent leadership roles in previous senior management positions throughout his extensive career at Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. since 1981, including former General Manager of the R&D Strategy and Planning Office, fonner General Manager of the Broadband Research Center, and former Director of the Media Processing Laboratory of the Multimedia Systems Laboratories.
His highlight technical achievements include the development of the world's first real-time video-rate image processing system in 1984 and the world's first color version of this system in 1985. In automotive applications, in 1987 he lead the development and realization of a revolutionary automated drive system employing real-time image processing technology as part of his work m Japan's nationally funded project Autonomous Vehicle: PVS (Personal Vehicle System), which resulted in accolades from the global automotive industry. In video display technology, in 1991 he developed a new architecture platform that led to the release of SUBARU, a 3D computer graphics system that featured the world's highest performance at the time. In 2003, Mr. Sasaki also lead the innovative development of Fujitsu's award-winning leading-edge revolutionary technology for the world's first palm vein biometric identity authentication known as PalmSecure's, and drove technical contributions that lead to its commercialization in 2004 and global launch in 2005. He has lead milestone R&D that resulted in numerous industrial applications of such leading-edge technologies in these realms.
