Big Data Solutions for Maritime

Our shared maritime Big Data solution aggregates ship and marine weather data. Using a ClassNK enabled platform, information such as weather and engine data is collected from moving vessels. The data collected is then extracted and analysed to enable operators to achieve more energy-efficient operations.

Maritime Port Optimisation and Traffic Management

In collaboration with A*STAR and Singapore Management University, we created the Urban Computing and Engineering Centre of Excellence to investigate the challenges faced in highly urbanised environments.

Maritime and port optimisation was identified as an area in need of an integrated logistics solution. An Urban Computing Platform capable of handling complex analytics, was developed and built using a combination of PRIMEFLEX® for Hadoop and PRIMERGY servers. Our maritime port optimisation solution provides vessels with data access to optimise cargo flow and handling, and enable improved vessel turnaround times.

We also developed a vessel near-miss risk detection solution. Using spatio-temporal risk modelling, we enable maritime operators to calculate the near-miss risk of vessel pairs, and identify risk hotspots to enhance the safety and efficiency of maritime operations.

Maritime Security and Vessel Tracking

In collaboration with the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, we developed AMIS – the Australian Maritime Identification System to safeguard physical borders. It’s a highly secure off-the-shelf-solution, that brings together marine data from an array of systems, into one single database for data analysis and threat assessment. The system delivers a geospatial display of maritime vessels and contacts, along with associated threat rankings and an automated threat analysis and warning.
