Fujitsu UK & Ireland Achieves Platinum in Business in the Community’s Corporate Responsibility Index

Leading Japanese information and communication technology (ICT) company, Fujitsu UK&I, has today been recognised in Business in the Community’s (BITC) annual benchmark of responsible business management, the Corporate Responsibility Index (CR Index). Fujitsu UK&I received a CR Index performance score of 96% - making it a platinum company – driven by its integration of the management of its corporate responsibility agenda into its core business processes.

The CR Index is the UK’s leading and most in-depth voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility. It has been run by Business in the Community for over a decade to help companies; accurately measure and manage all aspects of their social and environmental performance; shape how they integrate and improve corporate responsibility throughout their business operations and benchmark themselves against competitors.

Fujitsu UK&I was identified as a Platinum company because of its success in integrating corporate responsibility into its business model and the clear responsibilities and incentive structure at board and operational levels. Platinum companies have a structured approach to data collection and social and environmental impact assessment and can demonstrate a number of years of CR performance improvement across key impacts, high level of transparency and stakeholder engagement.

Fujitsu UK&I scored 100% in the CR Index with regards to incorporating CR into its overall corporate strategy and implementing and embedding this through the business. The company also rated very highly in the areas of management practice and environmental and social impact areas. Its overall score placed it in the top 20% of companies that entered this year’s CR Index.

Despite the on-going economic challenges businesses are facing in 2013, this year’s CR Index paints a positive picture of levels of commitment to responsible business in the UK. Participating companies achieved a high average score of 90% indicating that companies are continuing to overcoming commercial pressures to maintain their investment in and engagement with responsible business.

Business in the Community's CR Index is the UK’s leading voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility. It helps companies to integrate and improve CR throughout their operations by providing a systematic approach to managing, measuring and reporting on business impacts in society and on the environment. For over a decade the CR Index has inspired and challenged over 360 companies to continuously improve their impact on society and the environment.
