Fujitsu today launched its 8th Innovation Hub, as The Telford Park School becomes the latest member of the Fujitsu-Intel Ambassador Programme. The Telford Park School was selected due to its commitment to stand out as a new species of school, ultimately equipping their students with the right skills for what comes after education.

The initiative aims to enhance teaching and unleash students' potential by putting technology at the heart of education. It is aligned with the objectives of the Department for Education’s Education Technology Action Group (ETAG), whose mission is to promote the use of digital technology across schools, further education, higher education and Special Education Needs (SEN) sectors.

Fujitsu and Intel have equipped the school with state-of-the-art technology, providing the Innovation Hub with a set of 12 devices comprising of STYLISTIC Tablet and LIFEBOOK Notebook ranges - all equipped with the latest Intel® processor technology.

Uniquely, the school is utilising the Innovation Hub not only for its own pupils, but also the wider community in the Telford and Wrekin area, in which there are 46 primary and 12 secondary schools – all of which will have access to the Hub and its technology.

“For us, the Innovation Hub not only offers out students an incredible opportunity to prepare for a digital future, but it is also about spanning the curriculum divide that often exists between primary and secondary education,” commented Lee Taylor, Head Teacher of The Telford Park School. “This is a significant step in supporting ours – and other – students all the way through education from years one to six, and giving them access to inspiring new technology, taking them beyond the traditional classroom.”

Additionally, The Telford Park School offers post-16 education apprenticeships which sits in line with the Fujitsu’s values, who is committed to recruit 750 apprentices into the business over the next five years.

“Technology no longer plays just a supporting role in our lives. It is prevalent at home and at work and it demands a new skillset if the next generation are to use it to develop their capabilities, ideas and successes,” said Ash Merchant, Head of Business Development for Education at Fujitsu. “The Telford Park School’s commitment to not only investing in the digital skills of their students now, but to support them in the future, is one of the predominant reasons Fujitsu selected them as our 8th Ambassador.”

“We’re incredibly excited to be supporting a partner who is as dedicated to putting technology at the heart of education as we are and we look forward to supporting the team through to a successful future for the school and community.”

The Telford Park also becomes an official Tablet Academy partner. The Tablet Academy is a Fujitsu partner who supports all of the Ambassador Centres by offering teacher training in the newly acquired technologies. This is at the heart of this entire Ambassador Programme – not just providing the latest, high quality technology, but supporting how that technology is put to work within the education environment, ensuring it is used effectively.

Professor Steve Molyneux, CEO, Tablet Academy, commented: “The Tablet Academy is delighted to be partnering with The Telford Park School and Fujitsu to ensure that the Fujitsu-Intel Innovation Hub fully impacts on supporting teachers, students and the wider community. As the official Tablet Academy headquarters, the school will become a focal point for the delivery of exciting digital workshops and courses that make the most of the technology on offer as well as allowing people to develop their digital skills in line with the GoON UK campaign launched by founder Baroness Martha Lane-Fox.”

The teacher training element is vital in terms of ensuring that teachers are able to use the technology to truly add value in the learning environment for their students, and for parents to feel more comfortable in how their children are using technology and are able to support them. Additionally, the hub will be used for sessions with parents and students combined, in which the students will also support the training sessions for teachers and other adults – a very innovative way to break-down barriers that might exist between young people and adults around technology.

“Intel shares Fujitsu’s passion for education and inclusion for all and is delighted to support the Education Ambassador Programme,” says David McCarron, Education Director Intel EMEA. “We have a decade worth of experience working with more than 12 million teachers globally and we know the potential technology can bring to the classroom to enrich learning.  The Innovation Hub at Telford Park School will enable teachers to better help prepare students for success in the future.”
