London, June 26, 2015

Fujitsu will be joined by the family of Alan Turing when it takes part in the annual London Pride Parade. The company chose the revolutionary computer scientist as its Pride Hero in line with this year's theme. The event, taking place on Saturday 27 June, is expected to attract a crowd to rival last year's record 30,000+ turnout.

Michael Keegan, Fujitsu's UK & Ireland CEO, will be joined by over 80 Fujitsu employees including Steven Cox, Fujitsu's Vice President and Head of Public Sector, who is amongst the Financial Times' LGBT Top 100 OUTstanding business executives and The Daily Telegraph's Out at Work Top 50 executives.

Many members of Fujitsu's LGBT+ Employee Network Group will be taking part in the parade, and the company will also welcome representatives of several corporate partners across the charity and technology sectors who will walk alongside the Turing family.

Clare Dowling, Alan Turing's great-niece, commented: “Fujitsu asked us to walk with its employees having chosen Alan as its Pride Hero. The company picked Alan as its Pride Hero because he made a huge impact on the technology industry and I am delighted to be walking alongside the team. Having spoken with Fujitsu, I can see that it takes diversity and inclusion seriously, and makes it part of its everyday culture.”

In addition to walking at London Pride, Fujitsu will also be taking part in Manchester Pride on Saturday, 29 August. Alongside its role as a Stonewall Diversity Champion, the company runs a number of initiatives to support diversity and inclusion. This includes the Shine LGBT+ Employee Network Group which meets regularly to enhance how Fujitsu supports its LGBT+ staff and those who work with them, and to encourage a working environment where difference is valued.

“Alan Turing is an absolutely fundamental part of the history of technology and his impact is felt every day. Without his knowledge, innovative thinking and sheer determination, Fujitsu and indeed the entire IT industry, simply wouldn't exist in its current form,” said Martin York, Chair of Shine LGBT+ at Fujitsu UK & Ireland. “Given the huge impact Turing had on our industry and on the lives of the public who rely so heavily on technology, he was an obvious choice for our Pride Hero. We're honoured to be walking with his family and proud to be taking part in London Pride.”
