London, May 27, 2015

Fujitsu has been selected by Barnsley College as technology partner for a project aimed at enhancing learning, by digitally transforming  the college. A range of workstations, tablets and laptops will be deployed across the facility, to directly benefit the student and teaching community, by improving efficiency and mobility.

Situated in South Yorkshire, Barnsley College employs 802 teachers and hosts 9,500 students each year over a range of courses, from engineering to art and design. As a community college it is committed to being actively involved in the economic, social and cultural development of the people and businesses that surround it.

The contract will see Fujitsu deploy ESPRIMO PCs, STYLISTIC Tablets, LIFEBOOK Notebooks and PRIMERGY Servers across the college. The new Construction Centre (for careers in the construction sector), set to open in September 2015, and the Sixth Form College and Learning Curve will be the first departments to be transformed as part of the programme. The benefits are already being reaped as the simple act of logging on to a system has been bought down from three and a half minutes to 30 seconds.

“We aim to deliver outstanding teaching and learning at Barnsley College – and very much recognise the role that technology plays being able to achieve that”, said Mark Kendrick, Head of IT at Barnsley College. “From our early conversations with Fujitsu, it was clear that the team understood exactly what we wanted to achieve. With a strong track record of delivering best in class technology to the educational sector, Fujitsu was the natural choice to digitally transform Barnsley College.”

“Barnsley College is on the cusp of a digital transformation – and we’re excited to be part of the journey,” said Ash Merchant, Head of Education, Fujitsu UK and Ireland. “A recent survey by Fujitsu revealed that around a fifth (22%) of consumers believe that digital education should be part of the modern school curriculum, which points towards a real need to see investment at the beginning of the digital journey. Educational institutions like Barnsley College will play a crucial role in making this happen – and Fujitsu is committed to bringing their vision to life.”
