Fujitsu Announces 200GB*1 2.5” 5,400RPM SATA HDDs for 24-hour Continuous Operation

Suitable for Use in Industrial Equipment and Enterprise Applications

July 25, 2007

Fujitsu Europe Limited today announced its new MHY2 BS-series of 2.5” SATA mobile hard disk drives, designed for 24x7 continuous operation. The drives feature storage capacities of up to 200 GB(*1), with a 5,400RPM spindle speed, and advanced anti-rotational vibration technology to maximize performance.

For 24/7 continuous operation
Whether for use in industrial equipment such as automated bank teller machines (ATMs), point-of-sales (POS) systems, embedded systems, robotics, measuring systems and medical devices or enterprise applications such as entry-level servers and storage systems, the new MHY2 BS-series delivers highest performance and reliability. Its exceptional features include 24-hour continuous operation, high-frequency access, low heat generation, reduced energy consumption and in-built technology to minimize the effects of rotational vibration.

Outstanding specifications
Engineered using perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, the new MHY2 BS-series provides specifications, which are vital for today's industrial and enterprise computing applications. This includes a 2.5” form factor, storage capacities of up to 200GB(*1), rotational speed of 5,400RPM; SATA 1.5Gb/s (ATA-8, Serial ATA 2.5) interface and low power consumption of an average 0.6W in idle and 0.13W in standby mode. Its average read/write seek time is 12/14 ms and maximum buffer-to-host transfer rate is 150MB/s. The MHY2 BS-series acoustic noise level is 2.4bels(*2) (typ.) in idle mode whilst offering an operating shock tolerance of 325G (2ms).

Suited to customers´ specific needs
The new MHY2 BS-series joins two other series of Fujitsu 2.5” Serial ATA (SATA) hard disk drives that are also designed for 24-hour continuous operation and harsh operating conditions, both of which are already available: the MHW2 BK-series, which features a disk speed of 7,200RPM; and the MHW2 AC-series, which is designed to withstand extremely high and low temperatures.

Sales of the new Fujitsu MHY2 BS-series will start at the end of August 2007.

(*1) One gigabyte (GB) = one billion bytes; accessible capacity will be less and actual capacity depends on the operating environment and formatting.
Buffer: Small portion of buffer memory is used for drive firmware control.
(*2) bel: A unit for indicating noise levels. 1 bel is equivalent to 10 decibels.
