How we’re supporting Social Value at Fujitsu.

Wildflowers to workshops

Our customers are passionate about creating positive change for the environment and for communities. At Fujitsu, we’re committed to helping our clients succeed, which is why we take our responsibility to build Social Value initiatives into our contracts so seriously. We provide support while our customers are doing good things for the planet and for people.

A recent customer has found this change inspiring and impactful. Through practical actions, we’ve brought the themes of environmental awareness, education and training, and employment and workforce development to life to help them tackle the key challenges of climate change and economic inequality. Read on to discover what we’ve been up to.

Environmental awareness

Fighting climate change is an essential part of environmental awareness and we’re tackling this head-on. We helped our customer’s organisation offset 200 tonnes of carbon as the result of a range of global projects, including the reforestation of degraded land and the provision of support for renewable solar power. On our own doorsteps, we’re boosting biodiversity. We organised the planting of 200 trees on our customer’s behalf, while at our Basingstoke site, Fujitsu employees helped to spread 500 wildflower seed bombs, with plans to extend this initiative to our customer’s offices soon.

Employment and workforce development

For the duration of our customer’s contract, we’ve pledged to maintain a minimum of 15 full-time employees, as part of our commitment to tackle economic inequality through sustained employment. We ignited inspiration in a local school community with two employment-focused workshops; one aimed at helping students craft high-quality CVs, and another which provided mock interviews to prepare young people for the world of work. And we’ve been supporting workforce graduates (including Ellie Hicks – co-author of this blog) to develop their careers with IT Infrastructure Library® training and qualifications.

Education and training

Our quarterly Connect Conversations provide a feedback forum that underpins career development. This ensures that employees working on our customer’s contract have access to the advice they need to flourish. And in the wider community, we’ve been helping young people from a local school shape their future careers with Apprenticeship Awareness and Women in Business events. Volunteers from both Fujitsu and client teams came together to energise attendees about their career options, receiving excellent feedback from staff and students alike.

Powering positive change through practical steps

Championing Social Value themes through our service delivery is taking us on an exciting and inspiring journey. We’ve enjoyed getting stuck into events and learning new things about both our planet and our communities – whether that’s been through presenting to young people or planting wildflowers in our local area. It’s also been motivating to see how receptive our customer and its team members have been to the efforts we’re making.

This is just the beginning for us. We’re already looking forward to where we can go next with our customers.
