Fujitsu Components Europe

Hoofddorp, February 10, 2017

To provide a faster time to market for the integration of indoor navigation functionalities, Fujitsu has partnered with to create an integrated, system solution using the latest beacon hardware from Fujitsu with market-leading, indoor navigation software from The new partnership has been formalized after the highly successful display of their joint capabilities at Electronica 2016, Europe’s largest electronics show..

With this new partnership, FUJITSU and bring to the market a complete system solution for the fields of indoor navigation, advertising and asset tracking. Beacon-based indoor navigation can be used in a wide variety of venues, where GPS cannot operate effectively, to provide not only location but also smart customer interaction with information and guidance. For example, in an airport to guide passengers through the airport to the correct gate at the right time. Similarly at a train station or underground to find the right platform with the latest train times and updates on any delays or changes. In hospitals to guide patients to the right department. Museums or art galleries for guided tours with beacons triggering the information on the exhibits. Shows or exhibitions to guide people round and alert them to the speaker program. Supermarkets to help people find everything on their shopping lists plus provide them with special offers.

How it works

The technology works by having each Bluetooth beacon broadcasting its own unique identifier code over a range of up to 80 meters, which can be customized to suit the application. The signals from several beacons are triangulated by an app on the smartphone to provide a precise location that is displayed on the map in the app.

In addition, the beacon can trigger informative or promotional messages that are specific to the location (Point of Presence) such as a two-for-one offer in a nearby shop in the shopping mall or broadcast a URL for a web link that can be displayed on the smartphone to link the user to any type of information.

In fact, almost any indoor space could benefit from smarter interaction with people and provide them with a better, less stressful experience, enriched with useful information from their personalized guide.

For operators, beacons can provide valuable information on customer movements, bottlenecks, and the effectiveness of offers etc. to provide real time business intelligence. This valuable intelligence rapidly offsets the initial, modest costs of installing and setting up the beacons. In addition, the enhanced customer experience, which the beacons provide, brings people back for repeat business.

Cost effective

Installation of these small, robust beacons is easy, especially in combination with the solutions. The Fujitsu beacons have been optimized to provide a life of more than two years from a single standard (CR2450) Lithium coin cell before a battery change is needed, depending on various settings. This is due to a combination of using the latest Bluetooth Low Energy standard and Fujitsu’s advanced pattern antenna design that provides optimal range with minimal power consumption. The beacons are qualified to Radio Act (Japan), FCC, CE, IC, and are Bluetooth certified (QDID) to ensure no interference.

The beacons are easy to incorporate into an app and complete system solutions are available from FUJITSU’s partner, (, that extend to complete app creation, semi-automatic beacon location mapping, and beacon inventory keeping including alerts for broken beacons, missing beacons or failing batteries. The experience is rounded off by the innovative SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology for radio mapping, which guarantees a quick and accurate Indoor Navigation system setup (
