Helsinki, Finland, and Middlesex, United Kingdom, March 26, 2014

Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe Limited and Fujitsu Finland Oy have today announced further details about the second annual Fujitsu Innovation Gathering, which is taking place alongside the Helsinki leg of this year’s Fujitsu World Tour on 2nd April 2014. The one-day event’s theme centres around the digitalisation of business, information and society, with a full programme of debate and demonstrations around the latest Big Data, analytics and M2M developments. The Fujitsu Innovation Gathering will be showcasing a cross-section of Fujitsu Laboratories’ latest technologies and ICT advances, linked by Fujitsu’s underlying focus on realising a human-centric intelligent society.

Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe represents the global research activities of the Fujitsu Laboratories Group in EMEA, acting as an important portal between Fujitsu’s technology roadmap and its transformation into business solutions. The Fujitsu Innovation Gathering will provide a unique insight into how Fujitsu’s pursuit of technological advancement combines the diverse challenges of conventional ICT applications with more complex social applications. Dr Tsuneo Nakata, President of Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe explains: “As the Fujitsu Laboratories Group, we are developing technologies and solutions that deliver genuine value from a human-centric perspective, helping to enable sustainable growth for society at all levels ? within business, across the information highway, and society as a whole. In parallel with Fujitsu Finland hosting the Fujitsu World Tour, we are delighted to present our Group’s latest leading-edge technological advances to the Nordics region, ranging from how Linked Open Data and Big Data can be harnessed to perform sophisticated data analytics, to a socially-interactive teddy bear robot prototype, designed to assist in the care of the elderly, as well as for educational applications. As the Fujitsu Laboratories Group, our emphasis is on aligning R&D with business objectives and real-world applications, as highlighted at this year’s Fujitsu Innovation Gathering.”

For Fujitsu Finland, the event provides an important opportunity to generate debate on how our digital future impacts business and society, as CTO Glen Koskela comments: “The event offers a unique opportunity for Finnish academics, government experts, and technology officers in business to network with Fujitsu's ICT research facilities. The thought-provoking presentations of emerging research themes and tangible demonstrations of applied state-of-art technologies are very relevant to boost Finland's industrial innovation, digital business transformation, and data-driven public sector, and to respond to our societal challenges. International cooperation in science and innovation to address these priorities would definitely strengthen our national programmes."

12 technology demonstrations are being showcased during the event, representing a cross-section of Fujitsu Laboratories Group’s broad spectrum of activities. These include:

  • How XBRL can be used to build, edit and perform financial analytics on large data sets
  • Superfast file transfer technology that is up to 27 times faster than current techniques
  • Using Linked Open Data (LOD) and Big Data to detect fraud in the public sector, and to perform sophisticated financial data analytics
