FACOM M-380 Model Group (1981)

Ultra-large general purpose computers which were the world's largest and fastest, positioned as the top model of the M series introduced in 1981. The FACOM M-380 model group consisted of 2 models: the M-380 and M-382. Information processing systems in the 1980s experienced remarkable growth, particularly of large-scale systems, with rapid expansion from organization's internal systems to systems which connected differing types of industries with each other, and further to systems which supported social lifestyles. Since the scale and area of influence of machines involved with social systems was especially large, processing capacity and reliability higher than ever before were demanded of the ultra-large computers that functioned at the core of their systems. These 2 models were designed to simultaneously fulfill those goals while improving their total cost performance.
