Fujitsu Announces RoHS-Compliant Touch Panels

Fujitsu Components Asia today announced that it will immediately begin converting its touch panel products to RoHS lead-free compliant status to meet its customers’ environmental programs. The change will affect all products in Fujitsu’s 4- and 7-wire resistive touch panel line. The panels will now be manufactured with a Gold-plated, flat flexible cable to replace the current Tin-Lead plated flex cable.

The new devices are drop-in replacements for the company’s existing touch panels, however, a Gold-plated connector is necessary for terminating the new Gold-plated flex tails to avoid corrosion at the connector contact points.

The new RoHS lead-free compliant touch panels will have new part numbers to differentiate them from the existing products. Pricing will be the same, or similar, to the current offering.

Fujitsu offers film-glass and film-film-plastic touch panels in sizes ranging from 1.9 to 17.3-inch (diagonal) for applications including desktop, notebook and palmtop PCs; intelligent kiosks; portable instrumentation; automotive, voting machines; process control; medical and financial equipment; and Point-of-Sale terminals. The company also offers high-transparency panels, anti-reflection coatings, anti-glare treatments and circularly polarized filters, which are particularly suitable for high-ambient light and outdoor applications.
