Leading regional IT and communications solutions provider Fujitsu Asia Pte Ltd today launched the fi-5120C and fi-5220C colour duplex workgroup scanners, the first products in their class to offer ultrasonic multi-feed sensors to detect and prevent multiple sheets of paper from being fed simultaneously.
Building on the strengths of earlier models fi-4120C2 and fi-4220C2 (two of the best-selling workgroup scanners according to market research and consulting firm InfoTrends/CAP Ventures), the new scanners also support higher scanning speeds compared to their market-leading predecessors and offer additional features including mixed batch scanning and embossed card scanning.
Ultrasonic multi-feed sensors allow the fi5120C and fi-5220C to automatically detect if more than one document has been fed at any time, thus ensuring that no document in a batch will be accidentally left unscanned.
With mixed batch scanning, the scanners are able to digitise various types of documents (such as paper printouts, transparencies and photographs) in a single stack without the need to rearrange items according to sizes, textures or thicknesses, for added convenience.
The devices also incorporate advanced technology, called the Straight Paper Path system, which allows embossed cards – such as credit cards, driving licenses and identity cards – to be scanned via the automatic document feeder (ADF), thereby eliminating the hassle of having to digitise such items separately.
The ADF versions of the fi-5120C and fi-5220C scan colour, greyscale or monochrome documents at input resolutions of 150 dots per inch (dpi) or 200dpi. At a resolution of 150dpi, simplex scanning of one-sided A4-sized documents in portrait orientation can be executed at 30 pages per minute (ppm) while duplex scanning of two-sided A-sized portrait documents can be performed at 60 images per minute (ipm). Simplex and duplex scanning speeds for A4-sized portrait documents at a resolution of 200dpi are 25ppm and 50ipm respectively.
Additionally, the flatbed version of the fi-5220C scans colour, greyscale or monochrome documents at 150dpi or 200dpi. It takes 1.7 seconds and 2.2 seconds to capture documents at 150dpi and 200dpi respectively.
The scanners have true 600dpi optical resolutions, which allow them to accurately and faithfully capture intricate details in documents such as maps, spreadsheets and technical drawings. Colour, greyscale or monochrome images can be produced at output resolutions ranging from 50dpi to 600dpi. Users can specify output resolutions in 1dpi increments, thus giving them great control over the image quality and storage space for each output file.
Up to 50 documents, each with a maximum length of 34 inches (about 864mm) can be digitised in a single batch. In addition, the scanners have an expanded scanning range that reduces the chances of capturing incomplete information from skewed documents, for improved scanning efficiency.
Output files can be generated in Portable Document Format (PDF) using the bundled Adobe Acrobat 7.0 (standard version) program, which allows users to:
In addition, the fi-5120C supports an optional imprinter – available separately – that allows document names or codes to be printed on the scanned documents, for easy reference in future.
The new Fujitsu fi-5120C and fi-5220C colour duplex workgroup scanners are priced at S$1,360 & S$2,210 respectively, and are available immediately. Refer to the Appendices, visit http://sg.fujitsu.com/scanner or contact Fujitsu Asia at 6512-7555/7431 for more details.
