New Year's Greetings from Naoyuki Akikusa January 1, 2003

On behalf of the Fujitsu Group, I would like to wish you all a very happy New Year.

Although we do not expect a sharp economic recovery this year, customers' information technology requirements are increasing in scale and complexity, and companies have a pressing need to utilize IT to create stronger businesses that can cope with the difficult economic environment. The Fujitsu Group will continue to extend every effort to meet these customer requirements.

Amidst the extremely rapid pace of progress in IT, a great wave of technological innovation has overtaken actual use of that technology, and the IT industry is currently in the trough of that wave. However, with the network economy expanding into every facet of business and society, it is clear we must move forward.

I firmly believe a new wave is coming. Technologically speaking, for instance, new trends in blade- and grid-type servers are progressing, as are the expanded use of Linux systems and developments in all-IP and optical networks. On the usage side, mobility is accelerating and the ubiquitous network is making further strides toward becoming a reality.

The next wave will bring even greater technological advances, the integration of a wider range of technologies, and further expansion of global linkages.

To meet the challenges of this new era, we will further strengthen the services capabilities of the Fujitsu Group globally, creating a new software and services model and reforming our business promotion organization. In addition, to provide services with even greater added value, we will pursue new advances in leading-edge technology and marshal our comprehensive technological strengths in electronic devices, platform products and services, further strengthening our solutions business. In so doing, we in the Fujitsu Group will ourselves seek to create a new wave.

I would again like to thank all our customers, shareholders and business partners for your continuing support, and wish you all the best for a healthy and prosperous 2003.
