Encryption Technology - The SC2000 Block Cipher

Abstract

Information security technology, which is a fundamental necessity for electronic commerce and electronic government, has in recent years been attracting a great deal of attention in the field of information technology. Cryptography in particular is coming into the limelight. Against this background, we have developed a block cipher which we designated SC2000. The cipher is designed to have high performance on a wide range of platforms from the low-end processors used in smart cards and mobilephones to the high-end ones that will be available in the near future by suitably implementing it in each platform, and also to have high security.

Features of SC2000

• 128-bit block cipher with key length of 128,192 and 256 bits (the same as AES)
• Highest-level performance (five times faster than Triple-DES)
• Flexible implementation on a wide range of platforms

Fujitsu Limited has submitted SC2000 as a cipher for electronic government to the CRYPTREC Evaluation Committee organized by the Information-technology Promotion Agency (IPA) and Telecommunication Advancement Organization of Japan (TAO). This was done for the purpose of enabling the cipher to prevail as the cipher for electronic government in 2000, and SC2000 has been selected in the "e-Government Recommended Ciphers List".
