Fujitsu Transfers U.S. Subsidiary’s Advanced Technology Group to the Fujitsu Frontech Group

On August 1, Fujitsu Frontech North America Inc. (FFNA*1) — a North American subsidiary of Fujitsu Frontech — received transfer of the Advanced Technology Group, with operations in HD video transmission equipment, palm vein authentication, and other sectors, from Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA).

This move accelerates the consolidation of Fujitsu Group's global front-end technology business and enables the construction of a platform that will further strengthen the Group's operations and provide timely solutions to customer needs.

August 03, 2009

Fujitsu and Fujitsu Frontech announced in March 2009 that front-end technology operations, currently spread among different companies in the Fujitsu Group, would be gradually centralized to Fujitsu Frontech. Front-end technology operations include the development and production of socially significant products that tie customers with IT, such as POS devices and other retail transaction systems; dedicated devices such as ATMs and totalizator terminals; RFID tags and readers/writers; and palm vein authentication devices. This consolidation effort is intended to eliminate redundancies, increase operational efficiency and speed, and improve product development and competitiveness.

In the wake of this policy, the North American retail-system development, procurement, and production operations were transferred in April 2009 from Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc., (FTXS) to FFNA — a new North American subsidiary of Fujitsu Frontech. This move strengthened operations in POS and hand-held terminals.

Most recently, the Advanced Technology Group of FCPA — a U.S. subsidiary of Fujitsu — was transferred to FFNA on August 1. The Advanced Technology Group was formed in 2005 to commercialize advanced Fujitsu Group technology for the North American IT market, one of the world's leading IT markets, and nurture a business for future global expansion. The Advanced Technology Group has been successful in pioneering new cutting-edge operations in the United States, such as palm vein authentication systems — developed and produced by Fujitsu Frontech — as well as the IP-9500*2 HD video encoder/decoder and the XG*3 series of 10Gb Ethernet switches — both results of R&D by Fujitsu Laboratories Limited.

Although the Advanced Technology Group, over a short timeframe and with a limited staff, has launched a business, established a network of existing distribution partners, leveraged its business incubation expertise, and posted remarkable results by concentrating on selling advanced technical products, its transfer to the Fujitsu Frontech Group will permit it to plan products for new markets and to pursue new product projects in synergy with FFNA's existing product portfolio. FFNA plans to expand the Advanced Technology Group's operations by gradually adding Fujitsu Frontech's RFID products and color electronic paper to its product lineup. Through this business transfer, FFNA aims to reach sales of 20 billion yen in FY 2012.
