New enterprise cloud service in state-of-the-art data centre receives plaudits in 'Data Centre Transformation' category

Fujitsu UK & Ireland

December 21, 2009

Fujitsu has been recognised for the second year in succession at the Datacentre Leaders Awards. Fujitsu was the winner of the 2009 'Data Centre Transformation' award which recognised its new cloud computing service, installed in its state-of-the-art London North facility.

The London North Data Centre was opened in April 2008, and has been widely recognised by the industry as leading-edge in terms of availability, resilience and energy efficiency. It received awards for its environmental credentials and was the first data centre in Europe to achieve Tier III certification by the Uptime Institute for its high reliability.

Fujitsu’s innovative enterprise-class cloud computing service is newly installed in the London North Data Centre to ensure the high security and reliability standards that businesses require. The IT infrastructure uses enterprise-class servers, storage and networking to provide the levels of performance to host modern business systems.

The Data Centre Transformation award recognises Fujitsu’s vision, innovation and flexibility in transforming data centre service by building an enterprise-class cloud computing infrastructure suitable for live business systems hosting. Providing the cloud service in-country ensures high response times and means that an organisation’s data is not exported outside the UK, maintaining full corporate control and legal rights over the information.

Darren Ratcliffe, chief architect for Infrastructure-as-a-Service at Fujitsu UK & Ireland comments, "Cloud computing has taken the business world by storm this year. The promise of lower costs, lower carbon footprint and pay-as-you-go IT that flexes with the peaks and troughs of business demand, makes it attractive to organisations during the recession and also for those preparing their return to business growth. It is natural then that Fujitsu has led the market in helping organisations embrace this new approach to technology exploitation for enterprise business systems."

Roger Gilbert CEO Fujitsu UK & Ireland concludes, “When Fujitsu designed the London North Data Centre, we created for our customers a highly efficient, sustainable and reliable platform for their business systems. Recognising the needs of our customers in these difficult times, Fujitsu’s new IT Infrastructure-as-a-Service installed in London North is built to deliver the higher levels of efficiency that will enable UK corporations to build for their business growth and prosperity in the new decade. In leading the development and exploitation of cloud technology we are very pleased to be recognised for the second year running at the Datacentre Leaders Awards.”
