Today, EMC and Fujitsu Services announced that the Revenue Commissioners has signed a multi-million € contract to enhance its information management infrastructure. The solution will consolidate the Revenue Commissioners' storage and backup facilities, while providing a fully integrated and centralised management system.

Liam Ryan, who is responsible for ICT strategy in Revenue commented, “The investment will underpin the range of ambitious projects set out in our new Statement of Strategy (see www.revenue.ie for details)”. He added, “In addition to providing guaranteed capacity and agility across unfolding projects, it is a key enabler of our ongoing server consolidation policy, while also ensuring that business continuity and disaster recovery for new systems is more readily plumbed into a common infrastructure.”

James Keane, in charge of procurement and live implementation of the new solution, said “In response to Revenue’s open EU tender, Fujitsu Services had offered the best combination of leading products and partners, with proven reference sites to demonstrate their capabilities”.

Fujitsu Services is responsible for project managing the deployment of the EMC Storage Area Networks and associated backup software and tape libraries. Together with EMC they will implement two Storage Area Networks – one in Revenue’s primary production site in Dublin, and the second to replicate production to a second site. The solution will consist of an EMC Symmetrix® DMX™ storage array at each site, EMC Connectrix® SAN switches, Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF®) software for disaster recovery replication and EMC Replication Manager for on-line backup of critical applications. These will be attached to Revenue’s key enterprise server cluster and a range of mid-tier machines. The system will be managed by EMC ControlCenter™ family of management software which will integrate with existing enterprise management solutions in Revenue.

John Walsh, Client Director, Fujitsu Services Ltd, said “We are delighted to expand an already excellent relationship with Revenue and partner EMC. We look forward to supporting Revenue’s ongoing strategic ICT development to meet the needs of their customer service and compliance programmes.”

Tony Quinn, Sales Manager, EMC added, “We are pleased that Revenue has selected EMC technology as part of Fujitsu Services’ overall solution. The product mix will enable Revenue to take advantage of an EMC Information Lifecycle Management strategy to manage information at an appropriate cost to the Office throughout its lifecycle.”

Phase one of the solution has already been delivered and the project is due for completion in the second half of 2005.
