Conditions for Multifeed Detection

Multifeed is an error where two or more sheets are fed through the ADF at once. It is also called a multifeed when a different document length is detected.
Multifeed detection is performed by either checking the overlapping of documents, length of the documents, or the combination of both. The following conditions are required for an accurate detection.

1) Detection by overlapping
  • Load documents of the same paper weight in the ADF paper chute (Feeder).
  • Paper weight: 27 to 413 g/m² (7.2 to 110 lb) (0.033 to 0.50 mm)
  • Do not punch holes within 35 mm (1.38 in.) over the center of the document. See Fig.1.
  • Do not attach other documents within 35 mm (1.38 in.) over the center of the document. See Fig.1.
2) Detection by length
  • Load documents of the same length in the ADF paper chute (Feeder).
  • Variance in document lengths: 1% or less
  • Do not punch holes within 35 mm (1.38 in.) over the center of the document. See Fig.1.
3) Detection by overlapping and length
  • Load documents of the same paper weight and length in the ADF paper chute (Feeder).
  • Paper weight: 27 to 413 g/m² (7.2 to 110 lb) (0.033 to 0.50 mm)
  • Variance in document lengths: 1% or less
  • Do not punch holes within 35 mm (1.38 in.) over the center of the document. See Fig.1.
  • Do not attach other documents within 35 mm (1.38 in.) over the center of the document. See Fig.1.

Scanning

HINT:
  • Accuracy of multifeed detection may drop with some documents.
Multifeed cannot be detected for the top 30 mm (1.18 in.) of a document.
  • For the shaded area in Fig. 1, you can also specify a length not to detect multifeeds in the Software Operation Panel.
Display the Software Operation Panel in the following procedure.
    • Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008/Windows 7
Select [Start] menu [All Programs] [fi Series] [Software Operation Panel].
    • Windows Server 2012/Windows 8
Right-click the Start screen to display the app bar, click [All apps] and click [Software Operation Panel] under [fi Series].
    • Windows Server 2012 R2/Windows 8.1
Click [↓] on the lower left side of the Start screen [Software Operation Panel] under [fi Series].
To display [↓], move the mouse cursor.
