Multifeed detection conditions

A multifeed refers to an error that occurs when more than one sheet of paper is fed into the ADF at the same time.
There are three modes to detect multifeeds: document overlapping, document length, and both document overlapping and length.

The following conditions must be satisfied in each of these detection modes.

1) Detection by the document overlapping
  • The paper weight: 31 g/m2 - 209 g/m2 (8.3lb to 55.6lb) (thickness: 0.04mm - 0.26mm or 0.0016 -0.0104 inch)
  • Punched holes are not allowed within the area of 35 mm (1.4 inches) of the vertical centerline of the document.
  • Other paper shall not be glued within 35 mm (1.4 inches) of the vertical centerline of the document.
    Scanning
2) Detection by document length
  • Document length deviation: 1 % or less
  • Punched holes are not allowed within 35 mm (1.4 inches) of the vertical centerline of the document.
3) Detection by document overlapping and length
  • Paper weight: 31 g/m2 - 209 g/m2 (8.3 to 55.6lb) (thickness: 0.04mm - 0.26mm or 0.0016 - 0.0104 inch)
  • Document length deviation: 1 % or less
  • There should not be any punched holes within 35 mm (1.4 inches) of the vertical centerline of the document.
  • Other papers should not be glued within 35 mm (1.4 inches) of the vertical centerline of the document sheet.

Multifeed detection by document overlapping will often misdetect very thick paper or plastic documents. When scanning documents like this, disable Multifeed Detection.
Some document types and/or some document conditions may cause the multifeed detection rate to drop. Multifeed Detection is not available in the area about 30 mm from the leading edge of document.
