Cleaning method (ADF)

Cleaning the ADF as follows:
  1. Open the ADF while pushing the ADF open button.
    ScanningCAUTION: The glass surface inside the ADF can become extremely hot while operating the scanner. Take care not to touch the glass until it has cooled.

  2. Moisten a lint-free, dry cloth with Cleaner F1.
  3. Clean the following locations with the cloth according to the instructions.

Cleaning Brake Rollers
Lightly clean the Brake Rollers along the grooves on the rollers taking care not to scratch the roller surface.
When cleaning the Brake Rollers, remove them from the scanner. For information on how to remove the Brake Roller, refer to the section "Consumables replacing method" .

Cleaning the Pick Rollers
Lightly clean the Pick Rollers along the grooves on the rollers, taking care not to scratch their surface. Take particular care when cleaning these rollers as black debris on them adversely affects the pickup performance. For how to remove the Pick Rollers, refer to to the section "Consumables replacing method" .

Cleaning the Plastic Rollers
Lightly clean the Plastic Rollers taking care not to damage the roller surface.
Take particular care in cleaning this roller as black debris on it adversely affects the pickup performance. Be careful not to
damage the sponges attached around the middle of the rollers.
Cleaning the Pick Arm
Lightly wipe off the roller at the tip of the Pick Arm.
Cleaning the Chute Rollers.
Lightly wipe off the Chute Roller with its hood open.
Cleaning the Glasses/ Sheet Guide / Ultrasonic Sensors
Lightly wipe off the glasses, Sheet Guides, and Ultrasonic Sensors.

Cleaning Feed Rollers
  1. With the power on, open the ADF while the Operator Panel indicates error codes other than "P" and number "0."
    Note that the Feed Rollers will not rotate if you open the ADF and do the following action while "P" and "0" are indicated.
  2. Hold a soft cloth moistened with Cleaner F1 against the surface of the Feed Rollers.
  3. Hold down the [Send to] and [Scan/Stop] buttons simultaneously on the Operator Panel. The Feed Rollers start to rotate by a certain angle.
  4. To rotate the Feed Rollers one full turn, repeat step 3 above 7 times. Continue to repeat this rotating cleaning process until the rollers are completely clean.
    Take particular care in cleaning these rollers as black debris on them adversely affects the feeding performance.

  5. ScanningCAUTION: In Step 3, all the Feed Rollers turn at the same time. Do not touch the Feed Rollers while they are rotating.

Closing the ADF
Close the ADF by pushing it gently forward until the ADF open button latches and clicks close.
ScanningCAUTION: When the ADF has returned to its original position, make sure that it is completely closed. Feeding errors may occur if the ADF is not closed completely.
