The high-reliability design means non-stop operation
ETERNUS DX60/DX80 offer non-stop robust operation with redundant hot-pluggable components including power supplies, fans, and RAID controllers.
All relevant RAID levels (0, 1, 1+0, 5, 5+0, 6) are available to provide flexibility in data protection methods and choices of speed and security. The RAID Migration feature lets customers dynamically move data between different RAID groups and drives, without interrupting operations. Data can therefore be moved to faster or lower-cost drives according to its access frequency and importance at the time.
ETERNUS DX60/DX80 protect data on the drives with a combination of RAID functions and Data Block Guard. This top-class function appends check codes to every data block and verifies them at multiple checkpoints in the system. This ensures data integrity while data is being stored and in use. In addition, should data corruption occur, the system can detect the error and rectify the situations to guarantee the integrity of all the stored data.
Battery-free design reduces industrial waste
ETERNUS DX60/DX80 come equipped with a state-of-the-art Cache Protector.
Instead of traditional batteries capacitors are used to write the contents of RAID controller cache to flash memory, in the event of a power failure. This enables the storage to survive long power failures. Once power supply is restored, the cache can be back in operation very quickly. This is because capacitors can recharge a lot faster than batteries. In addition, unlike batteries, capacitors do not need periodic exchange. This reduces both waste and system management effort.
State-of-the-art drive technology
ETERNUS DX60/DX80 can mix reliable and fast SAS disk drives, for business critical data with lower-priced and larger capacity Nearline SAS disk drives for less critical applications - all in the same drive enclosure. Nearline SAS disk drives are comparable with SATA disk drives but make use of more reliable Enterprise SAS interfaces. In addition, ETERNUS DX80 supports enterprise-class Solid State Drives (SSD) for increased performance and a best price/IO ratio. The low energy consumption and extreme performance/watt ratio of SSD helps considerably with power consumption reductions as well as space requirements in the data center.
Data can be saved on the most appropriate medium to more exactly meet the requirements of cost, speed, access times and lifespan.
Maintains data redundancy
Nearline SAS disk drives have ever-increasing capacities. As a result, recovery times, when a disk fails continue to increase. As does the risk that another disk will fail during recovery. For example, a RAID5 configuration can typically require a number of days to rebuild a failed 1 terabyte disk drive. But with ETERNUS DX60/DX80, the Redundant Copy function starts a rebuild procedure to a hot spare disk drive as soon as the first signs of failure appear. This enables proactive exchange of drives while maintaining RAID redundancy and dramatically minimizes the risk of permanent data loss during the recovery action.
Following legislation for personal information protection, America's Sarbanes Oxley act and Japan's Financial Instruments and Exchange Law, enterprise information and its security has gained greater significance from a corporate social responsibility standpoint. Access to related stored data has to be restricted to authorized users. Unauthorized or accidental access to sensitive information must be blocked. ETERNUS Disk storage systems provide a data encryption function to address such requirements. Supported by Fujitsu Original Encryption, ETERNUS DX60/DX80 prevent data leakage even when disk drives are removed from the storage device or data center.
Excellent connectivity in multiple platform environments
With three different base models, ETERNUS DX60/DX80 can connect to hosts using 4 Gbit/s (DX60), 4 or 8 Gbit/s (DX80) Fibre Channel, 1 Gbit/s iSCSI or 3 Gbit/s SAS. A maximum of 64 (DX60) and 128 (DX80) host bus adapters can be connected in a SAN environment. The iSCSI models provide SAN functionality using the well-known Internet Protocol, which requires no investments in new IT infrastructure or training. It is especially suitable for small businesses. In comparison the SAS models directly connect to servers enabling relatively low-priced cluster configurations can be implemented.
High-speed copy functions provided as standard
The standard ETERNUS DX60/DX80 machines are equipped with 8 sessions of Advanced Copy function (SnapOPC+) using GUI/CLI. They can be used for operational planning. This includes calculating likely copy times and gaining experience in the functions. Once a copy license is purchased, copying can be extended to 512 sessions with DX60 and 1,024 with DX80.

- Copies only the original data prior to it being updated.
- Ideal for backup of data in file servers as it requires reduced drive capacity and enables multi-generation backup.
ETERNUS DX60/DX80 are leading energy-efficient storage systems, in their class. In Eco-mode, which uses MAID (Massive Array of Idle Disks) technology, ETERNUS DX60/DX80 require even less energy and produce much less heat as disk drives not in use can be shutdown. This includes spinning down disk drives used for backup which are not required during daily operations. ETERNUS DX60/DX80 systems can provide a significant contribution towards greening the data center.
With a base unit and up to 9 expansion drive enclosures (DX80), each 2U high with capacity for 12 drives in 3.5 inch format, ETERNUS DX60/DX80 flexibly scale from 292 GB to 24 TB (DX60) or 120 TB (DX80). The storage management software ETERNUS SF Storage Cruiser provides centralized system control of SAN/DAS/NAS storage resources for enhanced operations management efficiency. Use of this software can also contribute to reductions in power consumption and CO2 emissions, as it enables monitoring of power consumption for the entire system and the temperature of surrounding areas.
ETERNUS SF AdvancedCopy Manager controls the Advanced Copy functions of ETERNUS DX60/DX80 and enables data volume replication.
