Fujitsu Offers Global Availability of Interstage Business Process Manager Analytics V12

Latest edition of business process discovery, monitoring and analysis software contributes to improved operations with intelligence offered by visualization of end-to-end business process

Fujitsu Limited

Tokyo, December 15, 2011

Fujitsu today announced the immediate, worldwide availability of Interstage Business Process Manager Analytics V12, the latest edition of its business process discovery, monitoring and analysis software.

This product includes Business Process Discovery, Fujitsu's proprietary technology for automatically generating process flowcharts using business system logs, without impacting any production systems. This results in accurate visualizations of business processes with no need to conduct on-site inspections. The resulting flowcharts of business processes can be used to easily analyze such issues as processing times and processing routes.

Encompassing every business process in a company, this software can apply to those processes that have traditionally been difficult to monitor and easy to overlook—such as sales management, production management, customer-facing processes, and internal accounting. That makes it easy for users to get an accurate, quantitative view of a company's status and trouble-spots, to identify problems, and to make improvements efficiently. In addition, the software is easy to deploy using Fujitsu's own Smart Setup, which is based on Fujitsu's Smart Software Technology(1).

In today's difficult business environment, companies are constantly transforming their business models and ICT systems along with their business processes. They also document and analyze so that they can improve inefficient processes. Until now, this has required considerable manpower to conduct on-site inspections.

Interstage Business Process Manager Analytics automatically generates business process flowcharts based on system logs and data, so that managers can literally get a clearer picture of the state of their business processes.

Business Process Discovery that makes this possible is used by Fujitsu's Field Innovators(2) as well as by affiliated companies in their business consulting services. To date, it has been used at more than 70 global companies. Gartner(3) has cited Automated Business Process Discovery as a highly beneficial technology in the field of business process management.

In addition to its use in-house at Fujitsu as a tool for monitoring and analyzing business systems, Interstage Business Process Manager Analytics is also being made available worldwide through an OEM agreement with CA Technologies.

"Through the alliance of Fujitsu and CA Technologies, both companies have been offering Interstage Business Process Manager Analytics and CA APM to help customers improve agility by providing broad and deep insight into the performance of business processes, services, applications and transactions, and the quality of the end user experience," said Mike Sargent, general manager, Service Assurance, CA Technologies. "We welcome the release of Interstage Business Process Manager Analytics V12, which enhances its process discovery capabilities and provides enriched customer insight into IT environments. This new version is designed to enable customers to address critical IT and business management challenges, including quality service delivery and end-user experience management."

Product Features

1. Automatically generates flowcharts to fully and accurately visualize business processes

Business Process Discovery uses the logs from business systems and database data to automatically generate flowcharts of business processes. Even when systems straddle multiple business operations, or in situations that have required human mediation between systems, the system logs and data can be captured, collated, and expressed using Business Process Discovery (patent pending).

The result is a flow of operations that can be visualized without the labor of physically inspecting a site. This is generated based on logs and data, so it avoids any preconceptions or subjectivity that a human inspector might impose, producing a flowchart that is accurate and without omissions.

In the flowchart, the path identified as the core process (or main route) is shown with a bold line. The number of iterations over each path and the average process lead time are shown, making visible at a glance the state of a process. This means it is easy to spot processes that are running inefficiently or erratically.

2. Easy-to-use analysis tools speed identification of problem areas in business processes

Flowcharts can be used for business analysis, and simply by checking menu items and moving sliders with a mouse, users can focus on specific processes and view a wide range of metrics, such as process frequency, process lead time averages and deviations by type, and number of steps per path. This information takes just a few clicks of a mouse to discover, enabling people without specialized training to obtain sophisticated process analysis. It is also possible to objectively identify problem areas in a business.

The result is an easy-to-operate graphical user interface that is grounded in the process discovery and analytical methodologies Fujitsu has developed through its global activities.

3. Quantifies the effects of business-process improvements

Not only does this software make it easy to identify problem areas in a business process, but because it continually monitors the underlying data, it can quantify the effects of improvements. Users can select the points on the flowchart they wish to monitor and set alert notifications for when threshold values are crossed.

This product integrates the tasks of monitoring status of business processes, analyzing that data, finding improvements, and assessing the effects of those improvements. These can all be performed within a company's own IT Systems department, so there is no need to contract the work out to consultants or allow valuable system data outside company walls, where it would risk compromising information security.

The Smart Setup, based on Fujitsu's proprietary Smart Software Technology, automatically optimizes network settings needed for deployment and memory allocation, simplifying the deployment process and getting customers up and running quickly.
