A high-speed, large-capacity magnetic disk unit completed in 1983, which was the first to achieve high-speed data transfers of 3 Mbytes per second. It used the same small 10.5-inch diameter disk as the FACOM6421, and improvements to recording density increased its memory capacity by 1.4 times to 630 Mbytes. It was also the first device to achieve high-speed data transfers of 3 Mbytes per second in all transfer operations from the magnetic disk unit through the magnetic disk control unit and channel unit, to the main memory.
