Newly-signed contract between Fujitsu and Orion broadly covers the entire ICT infrastructure

18 September, 2015
Pharmaceuticals and diagnostics company Orion has renewed its ICT infrastructure contract with Fujitsu Finland.

The services delivered by Fujitsu broadly cover Orion’s entire ICT infrastructure, that is, desktop services, communication services, servers, network devices, service desk, on-site support, and IT products with lifecycle services for all in all 3,400 workstations and 400 servers.

The contract covers 24 countries, the largest of them being Finland, India, the UK and Germany. Orion has several pharmaceutical plants In Finland.

The pharmaceutical industry is demanding and tightly controlled. Pharmaceuticals and ingredients used in them are subjected to multiple checks, and each checkpoint must leave a trace in the systems.
”In the pharmaceutical industry it is of critical importance that IT works. The safety and availability of drugs, and the reliability of information must be ensured. Government regulations regulate the activity and impose requirements on IT as well,” said CIO Sinikka Markkula from Orion.

”Being solution oriented, Fujitsu people take the bull by the horns without hesitation. They tackle problem situations right away without wavering whether there is a problem or not, allowing the customer to rest assured that these people are authorized to do and decide things for the benefit of the customer,” said Markkula.

The latest additions to the contract have to do with cloud services, the organization of on-site support and the profiling of IT users.

The plan is to deploy cloud services later in the fall but retain the traditional capacity service as well. Cloud services will be adopted selectively and at a moderate pace.

The management of the desktop services will be improved by job-based user profiling. Different groups have different support needs, and the product lifecycle management model, for example.

Aside from the IT infrastructure service, Fujitsu will provide Orion’s Documentum and Sharepoint based applications with support and maintenance services, for example.
