Hospital districts of Southern and Eastern Savo in Finland consolidate their IT infrastructure to Fujitsu’s Patja

Helsinki, 26 November, 2013 The hospital district of Southern Savo (ESSHP) is joining the Patja service agreement of the hospital district of Eastern Savo (ISSHP). The Patja service has been in use at ISSHP since 1998.

This is a groundbreaking IT collaboration as this marks the first time that two hospital districts combine their forces and procure IT services together.

ISSHP’s Patja will hereby more than double in size, as the number of users will increase by 1,500 healthcare professionals and the number of workstations by 1,200. Fujitsu’s Patja will manage altogether approximately 2,500 workstations when the service is launched in February 2014.

ESSHP’s Patja service covers service desk and on-site support, user and AD management, product services including pre-configuration, and IT infrastructure servers. During the start-up project, ESSHP’s workstations will be standardized and their Windows XP upgraded to Windows 7. They will also deploy virtual workstations and new applications, such as Office 2013 and Lync communication system.

”Our collaboration with ISSHP goes a long way back on several fronts and it works well. We share a lot of patients whose records must move smoothly and securely between different units. Unified IT infrastructure was a prerequisite for making patient records available wherever they are needed. We listened to ISSHP’s feedback on Fujitsu’s Patja service and since they find it useful and effective, we decided to join the same proven IT infrastructure service,” says IT Manager Merja Ikäheimonen of ESSHP.

”This is also a showcase for us, as different collaboration models are being examine across the country, also in the Eastern Finland. I believe that the example we set could serve as a pilot project for others as well. In terms of resource utilization, for example, this is definitely sensible, because going forward we are better able to cross-utilize our specialist resources, which we will both benefit from,” says IT Manager Mika Salomäki of ISSHP.

The hospital district of Southern Savo consists of Mikkeli and the surrounding municipalities with a population of circa 100,000.  The Mikkeli central hospital and Moisio psychiatric hospital are located in that area. The hospital district of Eastern Savo consists of 13 municipalities with all in all some 50,000 people. The central hospital for this area is located in Savonlinna.
