Spain Valmet Automotive and Fujitsu enter into IT collaboration

septiembre 18, 2009

Automotive services provider Valmet Automotive and ICT services provider Fujitsu Services Oy have signed a three-year IT service agreement that covers data centre operations, the management of IT equipment used in the production line, and various ICT support services.

TThe workstations of the company's administration have also been included in this agreement for the past ten years, in other words in Fujitsu's Patja managed services. Now they were transferred to the parent company Metso's Patja service, which is known as the 4114 service. It will now provide IT user support to Valmet Automotive.

Fujitsu has been Valmet Automotive's IT partner for more than two decades.

"Overall, Fujitsu could offer us the best solution. The service processes refined through the years of collaboration adjusted to the special requirements of our operation, and this service is the most readily integrable to the IT services that Metso produces for us. Our customer relationship is well-established, and Fujitsu's specialists have developed a deep insight into our special requirements over the years. It is of great importance that our IT services provider truly understands the significance of IT to our day-to-day operation. In these circumstances we are able to focus on the essential in terms of both the maintenance and development activities," says Arto Hakamäki, Vice President, ICT of Valmet Automotive.

In its development activities, Valmet Automotive is strongly oriented towards the electric and hybrid car technology and production processes. The company has already delivered its first electric Garia golf cars to Danish Garia A/S. The first plug-in Fisker Karma hybrid cars will be delivered to American Fisker Automotive later this year. Also, the production of the Think electric car will be relocated from Norway to Valmet Automotives's plant in Uusikaupunki by the end of this year. Valmet Automotive also produces the Porsche Boxster and Porsche Cayman sports cars for Porsche AG.

"We are going through a major change where things happen fast. It poses whole new challenges on the exploitation and development of new IT solutions that support our strategy. In the new global multi-customer environment, the utilisation of information systems, and technological communication in particular, will become increasingly pervasive. The production of high-quality ICT services is one of the cornerstones we are building to secure our future development and growth," Hakamäki sums up.
