27Lesson 2Grammar notes4) Negative form of adjectives① The negative form of an i-adjective is stem + く ないです ku-naidesu.あたらしいatarashii(plain affirmative form)↓あたらしatarashi- (*stem)↓あたらしくないatarashi-ku-nai(plain negative form)* The stem is the main part of a word to which various endings may be added. The stem of an i-adjective is formed by deleting the final 'i.'↓あたらしくないですatarashikunai desu (polite negative form)② The negative form of a na-adjective is the same as the negative form of a noun: stem + では ありません dewa arimasen.かんたんkantan(stem)↓かんたんですkantan desu(polite affirmative)↓かんたんではありませんkantan dewa arimasen(polite negative)
