Server Unit /390 (SU /390)
Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) is a semiconductor technology for chips and microprocessors. It is known for its low power consumption and short switching times.

Application units are high-end Intel servers. They enable the running of customer applications on x86-based servers with conventional hypervisors and operating systems in one common infrastructure. VMware, MS HyperV, OVM, Linux and Windows are supported
AU x86 enables the optimal balance between performance and cost-effectiveness for every customer application
AU87 (up to 8 of the latest Intel XEON processors), e.g., for server consolidation, big data, in-memory computing
AU47 (2-4 of the latest Intel XEON processors), e.g., for virtualization, server consolidation and databases
DBU87 is the equivalent of AU87, but with a defined hardware extension specifically designed for the customer’s database
AU25 (1-2 of the latest Intel XEON processors), e.g., for management software

Peripheral Unit (PU)
Integration of peripheral systems in the SE Infrastructure or the connection of external peripherals to the infrastructure
Management Unit (MU)
Central monitoring, management and configuration of the complete SE Infrastructure – i.e., all of the connected SU /390, SU x86, AU, PU, NU components and the systems running on them
Remote service is also provided through the MU
Management Server: connected to the /390 console and CRD via Fibre Channel. Connectivity with all the other components is achieved via internal networks
The M2000 management software with the SE Manager is installed on the Management Server (see the chapter on the SE Manager for details)
Net Unit (NU)
Gigabit Ethernet switches for internal communication and communication to the customer networks – with the option of 24 or 48 ports and from 1 to 10 Gbit/s
The Net Unit provides the highest levels of security thanks to network virtualization and isolation. It provides physical security through integrated components and logical security through access control and access management
The Net Unit is configured redundantly for /390 systems; for x86 systems redundancy is an option
Implementation of additional networks – for server-internal monitoring, controlling and data communication between the units, as well as for external data and administration connectivity with customer networks
A redundant configuration is an option that can drastically increase resilience and prevent outages
Furthermore, the HNC as net client enables access to net storage
Configurations with SU /390 feature a High-speed Net Connect (HNC) which provides the LAN connection for the SU /390

Existing customer applications continue to run unchanged in /390 code, with object compatibility supported by CISC firmware. This applies to applications created with ASSEMBH and for those application created with BS2000 compilers for higher programing languages.
Translated and adapted for the /390 hardware/software interface supported by X2000
The CICS firmware and unchanged BS2000 user interfaces ensure that customer applications continue to run unchanged on earlier BS2000 servers, on SU /390 and on SU x86. This does not require a new translation or binding process.
